Now that's over with... Okay, so I'm reading The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. Linden has finally realised what I knew all along, and has avoided dying in the process (Yay!). Anyway, there's a race called the Insequent in this book (they haven't appeared before). They can manipulate time to a certian extent - step between moments, something like that. They apparently "join and breed" and have fun when they're young, but as they get old they have an insatiable longing for knowledge, and they leave the rest of their people and, well, go looking for it.
By the sound of it each of them has their own sort of knowledge they choose to look for. They're an intriguing race, and I want to write fanfiction about the wo that have appeared so far when they were younger... because they're awesome.
But the point is their name. The Insequent. The first idea I got from that was one of things not following - it seems to connect to their ability to travel through time. The second thing I did was check my Latin dictionary.
insequor, group 3 deponent - to follow after, come next; to pursue; to censure, reproach, attack; to strive after; to overtake.
The present particle in insequens, plural insequentes. So the Insequent are 'those who strive' (or pursue) knowledge. And still the name hints at their time-travelling abilities. Isn't that awesome? ^w^

It's safe now - I'm done with that random minor epiphany. And to think I only came online to look up what 'surquedry' meant...
