spn_giftxchnge who wanted I'd like to have a fic of Jared and Jensen spending Christmas together. I hope this fits that and that you enjoy this!
Jensen is evil. For the past two years, he has hidden Jared’s present. And Jared always manages to find it, because Jensen just isn’t that stealthy. This year, though, Jensen had somehow managed to hide it better than he had in the past. Jared had spent a week looking and couldn’t find it anywhere! And it was hard to look when they both lived in the same house and Jensen was mean and home all the time. Ok, so maybe Jensen wasn’t mean. Jared usually loved Jensen being home, because they rarely got to spend time together lately, just not when all Jared wanted to do was frantically search the house.
Jensen leaves the house to go Christmas shopping for his family and Jared pumps his fist in glee once Jensen’s back is turned. He should definitely be able to find that present today. Jensen leaves with a shouted, “Jared, you won’t find it! How about you leave it to be a surprise this year?” and closes the door behind him. And that definitely sounds like a challenge. Of course Jared will find it. He’s been hunting for presents since he could walk! First he would find them at his parents, and now with Jensen. He has full faith in his searching capabilities.
Jared hopes he finds a decent sized box that contain the shiny new cowboy boots he’s been coveting at Western Town Boots since his old ones are all scuffed up and dirty. After all, he is a Texan boy and all Texan boys need boots. Well that’s his theory anyway. Jensen totally has some too, so he couldn’t deny that theory when Jared said as much. Jared had casually tried to mention it in as many conversations as possible, hoping Jensen would get the hint, as subtle as Jared was. Jensen did raise an eyebrow after the 5th or 6th time Jared had said the word boots, so he probably wasn’t as subtle as he thought.
He’s looked in the shower (the guest one as well), under the beds, dug through the closets (all of them), ransacked their bedroom, the kitchen, everything. He’s searched high and low with no results of anything that looked remotely like a Christmas present.
He had looked in the garage yesterday, and then lifted weights because he didn’t get his work out in that morning and plus, he was getting a tad frustrated, though he would never admit it. Jensen wouldn’t let him get up and had distracted him so he wouldn’t leave the bed. Jared couldn’t say he had minded much though. Jensen had come in to Jared working out and said, “Finally. Guess you found something to keep your mind off of certain other things.” Jared just shook his head and said, “Nope, not yet. I’ll look again later. I didn’t get a chance to get some weights in today, because someone wouldn’t let me.” Jensen looked at him, eyes darkening with heat and desire and said, “Well someone wants to distract you again. You up for it?” And yeah, Jared couldn’t resist a blatant invitation like that. Sex was totally exercise too.
Jared gets some wrapping paper and makes Harley and Sadie sniff it, hoping they’ll discover where his present is. All they do, though, is chew at the paper and bark at him happily because their daddy gave them a new toy. Unhelpful mutts. But then he feels bad for even thinking that so he gives them actual treats. And they bark even more happily and all is right with the world again.
Right, back to the elusive present. He racks his brain for where Jensen would put a gift for him and suddenly a light bulb goes off over his head. He first goes to the pantry but is saddened to see there’s no present. Though there is a lot of chocolate. He has to keep that in mind for later when his own stash runs low. The only other place he can think of is the laundry room. And if it is not there, then Jared admits defeat. He is forbidden from entering that room since the last time he washed clothes and flooded the hall with soapsuds. It wasn’t his fault. Really.
He opens the door gently; half afraid Jensen had installed some kind of alarm that would sound if Jared got inside. All he hears is silence and the panting of the dogs behind him. Sadie and Harley have been with him the whole time, looking at Jared like they are wondering what their crazy daddy is up to this time. He enters the room and glances around, looking for any sort of box or package. He opens the washer and there are only a couple of clothes soaking. The dryer is his last chance. He opens it slow, muttering please be in there under his breath with his eyes closed. Jared gradually opens his eyes and holds his breath; fervently hoping his present is there. He bends a little to peek in and sees a bag with the words Western Town Boots. Success! He does a little dance of joy and the dogs bark at him and run out of the room. That could either be because of the dancing or his cry of, “Who’s the bomb? Jared’s the bomb!” He just shrugs, thankful Jensen isn’t home to mock him, his jig, and his excitement.
He takes the bag out gingerly and sits down on the floor. He reaches inside to take out a brightly wrapped box. It’s green and red and has dogs in Santa hats all over it and it makes Jared grin wide. Jensen knows him all too well. Before he starts to unwrap the box, guilt washes over him. He knows he should wait, but he’s impatient and Jensen should have learned from the past two years and waited to buy his present, or hid it somewhere else. He shakes off the feeling of remorse and carefully starts to peel off the tape. He wants to put the gift back in pristine condition after all. Like his mama taught him, Put things back better than you found them.
He gets all the tape off, very gently, and takes the paper off the box, laying it beside him. The box is white and pretty sturdy. He opens the flap, expecting boots, but instead he finds another box; his mouth turns down into a frown. He takes the other box out, this one is red, and opens it to find another smaller box. He keeps opening box after box of various colors and sizes. He’s confused and thinks Jensen tricked him pretty good when he finally pulls out a velvet box. His breath catches in his throat and a cough startles him into looking up. Jensen is leaning against the door, looking at him with an amused, yet fond, expression.
“So I guess you found it huh?” Jensen asks.
“I told you I would,” Jared says and then asks, “How long have you been standing there?”
“Oh, awhile. Pretty much as soon as you took the box out of the bag. It was cute how you tried to make sure the wrapping paper stayed perfect. And your face was hilarious when you kept pulling out boxes, all scrunched up and confused.” Jensen says, lips tilting up in a half smile. He walks over to Jared and sits down next to him.
“Oh ha ha,” Jared says dryly. “Jensen, what’s this?” he asks, looking down at the box before looking back up into Jensen’s eyes. Jensen flushes a little and raises his arm to scratch at the back of his neck. He takes the box out of Jared’s hand and gets up on one knee, opening the box to reveal the platinum ring inside. Jared suddenly can’t breathe. It’s like all the air has been pushed out of him.
“I was going to wait, but since you’re an impatient brat,” Jensen starts. Jared smacks Jensen on the back of his head. He totally deserved it. Ruining a moment with that smartass comment.
“Ouch. Fine. Jared, you’ve made me so happy these past few years and I can’t imagine my life without you in it. You wake up way too early, eat way too much sugar, can’t sit still to save your life, and make the worst jokes ever, but you never fail to make me laugh anyway. I love you. Marry me?”
Jensen looks at him, eyes shining with love and hope and a hint of worry.
“You forgot how great I am in bed,” Jared remarks and Jensen rolls his eyes. Jared gets up on his knees as well and leans in to give Jensen a sweet, but passionate kiss, conveying everything. Yes. I love you. Forever.
He sits back on his haunches and Jensen has the most gorgeous grin on his face, eyes twinkling, the eye wrinkles he loves so much on full display, lips stretched into a wide smile and freckles standing out. His future husband. The man he’ll be with forever. Jared is one lucky guy.
Jensen takes the ring out of the box and slips it onto Jared’s finger. It looks perfect, glimmering in the light. He kisses Jensen again, slow and deep. Jensen leans back after a couple of minutes, eyes hazy and dark.
“Oh by the way, your other present is in the trunk of my car, I couldn’t have it inside with you turning the house inside out.”
“It’s ok. I think I got a much better present,” Jared says, smiling at the way Jensen seems to grin brighter.
