Painting in "plein air":
This course will explore the pleasures of "Plein Air" Painting in Paris. "Plein Air" literally means "in open air" but has come to mean any painting that is done outside of the confines of the studio. In Paris, our classroom will be the city itself. Join with us this summer as we tackle the problems of rendering sunlight, color, composition, and value structure in paint. June is a lovely time of year in Paris and there are many outdoor settings where you can set up your materials and learn painting technique. You may do a study of Notre Dame' s facade, a Sidewalk Cafe and even a Bateau Mouche as it floats down the River Seine.

The Art and Architecture of Paris:
Our classroom is the city of Paris, which itself is an art work, and since our course covers the art and architecture of the city and its museums, we will also see painting and sculpture from many other places.
We will meet three times a week at pre-assigned places and begin our walking tours of churches, monuments, palaces, boulevards, bridges, and museums.

I just got really excited about the potential for this summer.
