EARNEST VALENTINE A one time soda jerk and Naval Aviator for 22 years, Orell Earnest Valentine was born November 20, 1917 in Alice, Texas. One of eight children, he was the youngest son of a farmer who was rumored to have moved his family between Kansas and Texas in a covered wagon. During his Naval career, Earnest flew over a dozen types of aircraft including blimps, and used two aircraft to create underwater sea life habitats. In 1948 he married his gracious and eloquent pianist bride, Ethel Beryl Yacht, born April 13, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. They were the loving parents of their five children. Earnest retired from the Navy in 1964 and taught high school math and economics in North Carolina. In 1965 he took his family on a 10,000 mile nomadic journey across the country in a trailer, finishing the trip and settling in California. He was a world traveler and walking enthusiast, often exploring the greater Bay Area with his walking group, Ethel at his side and ever present cap on his head. He joined Ethel, his beloved wife of 54 years, in heaven on July 16, 2006 leaving behind two sisters, five children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Their smiles and patience will always be with us and guide us forever.
