It’s not very often that I send out request or information such as this, but this is, of course something that can have a profound effect on me and many people who I am close to. Please, if you wish, take a moment and read the information below and follow the link to voice your support to your local legislators about this very important bill.

~Matt

On Friday Governor Baldacci introduced a non-discrimination bill for LGBT people. With your help, discrimination against LGBT people will become illegal in the state of Maine.

To learn more and to contact your Legislators click here

An Act to Prevent Discrimination, makes it illegal to discriminate in employment, housing, credit, public accommodations and educational opportunities based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.

The bill will have a public hearing during the first week of March (no date has been set yet) in Augusta. We are still seeking people who have experienced discrimination to testify. If you know someone who has, please click here to learn more

One of the greatest influences on a legislator are letters from their constituents. Please take a moment now to contact your legislators in support of the Governor's non-discrimination bill. Don't know your legislators? No problem. Equality Maine has a web page that identifies your legislators for you. See it in action here

The link above also contains more detailed information, such as the full text of the anti-discrimination bill.

By allowing other supporters of equality to help, you greatly increase the power of your voice.

Thank you.
