drivers license to become emt-b?

Hello, I'm planning on taking courses in EMT in college around mid august. I want to become an EMT-Basic. I was wondering, do you need a driver's license in order to pass?

Because I don't drive but I plan to eventually. I was just wondering if its a must to have a drivers license before you start school.

do you know around how much it'll cost to become an EMT-B? I'll be taking classes at a community college. I'm guessing around $700 but I'm not sure.

Actually it varies by state. I live in Rhode Island and I needed to have a drivers license in order to take the state test. If I were to lose my drivers license for whatever reason or have it suspended, I would consequently lose my EMT license.

....I'm not sure about that. I know for a fact that there's a C working right now who's legally blind.

You can be legally blind and still have a drivers license (as scary as that sounds) as long as with corrective lenses you can pass the eye exam. I have a friend in this situation.

The only reason I know about the drivers license thing is that another friend was cited for drinking in public, had his license suspended, and as a result his EMT license was also suspended until he had his DL back.

Each state has different requirements. Actually, sometimes within each state different regions also have different requirements. However, I'd be willing to bet that no matter what state you're going to go for your EMT they are gonna require you to be able to drive. Being an EMT is not always about working the back of the rig, you gotta get there first. How do you plan on getting the rig there if you can't drive?

Well, look at it this way- he won't have a bad driving record preventing him from getting a job! LOL

In maine most volunteer ambulance services won't pay for it. Its because they a run off donations and a set budget from the town they reside. I was a Driver for one but not licensed. They were part of a Fire Dept. So I did my AVOC threw them, up here you are required to have a drivers license to get in to the class.
