Emma slowly opened the door and lead Jenny inside the house. With each step they took Jenny’s nerves grew stronger and stronger; she felt another squeeze of her hand which relaxed her as they made their way into the living room. Most of the family was sitting around watching the television; they looked up when they heard the footsteps from the pair of them.
“Emma-bear you are home,” her father smiled to her.
“Hi Papa, how was work?”
“Tiring but I managed to get through it,” he smiled and then looked over Emma’s shoulders and saw an unfamiliar face.
Emma noticed the look on her father’s face and realised she forgot to introduce the brunette. “Oh sorry, Papa this is Jenny, Jenny this is my father and my younger brother Tyler, and you have already met my sisters.”
“Nice to meet the both of you,” Jenny smiled trying to hide how nervous she was. ‘Get a grip you are never this nervous but then again you have never liked someone as much as you do with Emma,’ she thought as she watched Emma’s father slowly get up off the couch.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you too young lady,” he said with a smile and an outreached arm. Jenny quickly shook the man’s hand while smiling back. “Yes, it’s nice to meet you,” Tyler shyly said behind his father’s back. “So are you staying for dinner? Emma’s mother always makes plenty to go round for the whole neighbourhood,” He said jokingly loud enough towards the Kitchen where Emma’s mother was.
“Kevin!” Mrs Muller said while walking into the living room.
“Sorry sweetie, you know I love your cooking,” he smiled while looking at his wife.
Jenny couldn’t help but giggle at the tiny banter between Emma’s parents. “If you don’t mind, then yes I would love to stay,” Jenny said with a smile.
“That is no problem at all sweetie, more the merrier,” Emma’s mother said.
“Oh great, why aren’t we allowed to have friends over and Emma can waltz in with people we hardly know and she can stay,” Alissa said from her sitting position on the lounge.
“Because all of your friends a nitwits, opps sorry excuse my language,” Kevin said calmly before resuming his place on the side chair.
“Dad! That is so not true, well maybe some but they are good people!” Tracey said trying to defend her friends.
“Yes whatever you say darling.”
Mrs Muller excused herself and went back to check on dinner. “Dinner will be ready in about 10 minutes,” she called out from the kitchen.
Emma looked towards Jenny before smirking, grabbing her hand and leading her upstairs. Taken by surprise, the brunette almost fell over her own feet, but Emma was there to catch her.
“Where are we going?” Jenny whispered.
“Too my room,” Emma said with a wink.
“Oh,” Jenny said with a smile.
Finally reaching Emma’s room, Jenny slowly walked in admiring how elegant it was, the room was way smaller than what she was used to but so fitting for Emma. “I know it’s not that big, but it is comfy and I like it,” Emma said slightly embarrassed.
“Don’t be silly it is perfect for you, and everything in here reflects you so well, like over here this bookshelf filled with musical books and CD’s, then on this wall the collage of you and your friends, so adorable, your clean and elegant desk, very you,” Jenny said while working her way around the room and finally coming to a halt by the bed. “Oh and this stuffed dog, definitely you,” Jenny said with the biggest smile.
Emma just stood by her desk, blushing uncontrollably at what Jenny was saying. ‘How are you so perfect and how can you be interested in someone like me,’ Emma thought as she watched Jenny slowly make her way towards her. Jenny was inches away from Emma when she smiled once more and placed her hands on Emma’s waist causing Emma to let out a small sigh, Jenny smiled even bigger at the sound and slowly brought her head closer to Emma’s until their lips touched for a small tender kiss. Pulling back Jenny smiled before stepping backwards.
“So, yes, I love this room very much,” she smiled
Before Emma could respond a knock on the door came signalling through the room followed by her brother’s voice. “Dinner is almost ready, so everyone must be at the table.”
“Thanks Tyler, we will be down in a minute,” Emma called back to him. She then smiled at Jenny before grabbing her hand and leading her out of the room and down the stairs towards the dining room. Emma sat on the chair right from her father, and then pointed for Jenny to sit next to her; Jenny smiled and sat down in between Emma and Tyler.
Finally dinner was ready and Mrs. Muller began bringing out the food she had prepared. Once everything was on the table Mrs Muller began explaining what everything was for Jenny. “Okay so first we have, Schweinebraten, which is Pork roast in rich gravy, Secondly we have Goulasch which is Sharply fried beef and pork cubes stewed with onions and red peppers, thirdly we have Weiner Schnitzels which is Thin crumbed veal fillets, and lastly the side we have mashed potato, noodles and a simple salad.” Mrs. Muller smiled towards Jenny. “Okay, who would like to say grace?” she said towards the table.
“I will,” Tyler said with a smile. They all put their hands together and listened to the small boy. Jenny felt uncomfortable as she wasn’t used to saying Grace at dinner because she never had a proper meal with her family, it was always either by herself or dinner with her parents and their business friends. Finally Jenny zoned back into the speech and was able to hear the small boy say Amen which she joined everyone else in saying Amen back.
“Alright everyone, help yourself,” Emma’s father said before everyone began diving into the food. Jenny was overwhelmed at how everyone was grabbing at the food she just sat there watching them.
“Are you alright?” Emma whispered into Jenny’s ear.
“Mhm,” Jenny nodded. “I am just waiting for everyone to get their food,” she smiled.
“Alright,” Emma smiled back.
Finally everyone else had their meals on their plates so Jenny began grabbing some food of her own. Once she had her food, questions started to arise from Emma’s father and they were all directed towards her.
“So Jenny, how long have you been here? I haven’t heard of you really, where did you live before? I hear you are staying with Stefan Bergmann, where are your parents? Do you like Pestalozzi? Emma-bear here loves it, especially singing. Do you like singing?”
“Papa stop it, let her eat first and then she might answer you,” Emma finally said as she noticed Jenny become incredibly nervous at all the questions being fired at her.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Kevin smiled before returning to his meal.
Finally they had finished dinner and desert, Jenny offered to help clean up but Mrs. Muller calmly told her she was a guest and there was no need. She instead looked towards her two eldest daughters and asked them to give her a helping hand; of course they moaned and groaned throughout the cleaning, Emma just simple rolled her eyes.
“They always piss and moan when they have to work.”
“Oh so they like to be treated like princesses?” Jenny giggled.
“Pretty much,” Emma smiled back.
The cleaning was finished and the family made their way into the living room to watch a movie before bed time.
“I would love to stay and watch this but I really must get home because I have homework to do and I really don’t want to be up all night.” Jenny smiled to the rest of the family before turning towards Emma.
“Oh, that is completely alright Jenny dear, it was a pleasure meeting you,” Emma’s mother said while giving her a hug.
“Thank you Mrs. Muller,” Jenny smiled.
“Yes, it was lovely to meet you,” Kevin said from his chair.
“You too Mr. Muller,” Jenny smiled. “Goodbye everyone,” she said towards the family.
“Bye Jenny,” Tyler said.
“Bye,” Alissa and Tracey mumbled.
“I’ll walk you out,” Emma smiled.
Making their way outside they stopped just outside the door and smiled at one another.
“Thank you for a lovely afternoon and dinner,” Jenny spoke before giving Emma a kiss on the cheek.
“Pleasure is all mine, you are wonderful and I enjoy your company very much,” Emma blushed before leaning in and kissing Jenny slightly on the lips.
“I’ll see you tomorrow at school,” Jenny grinned before turning around and walking down the stairs and towards her car. Before getting in she looked back up and smiled at Emma who was still smiling at her. ‘She is so damn adorable, I can’t get over it, Emma Muller has stolen my heart,’ she thought as she hoped into the car.
‘She is so beautiful, I am so lucky to call her my own, I am looking forward to tomorrow so much more, I believe Jennifer Hartmann is the love of my life,’ Emma said while watching the car drive off.
