Carlie made her way home; she was excited for the night ahead of her. She still couldn’t believe that Luzi, out of all people, asked her over for dinner. She smiled to herself as she opened the door and was eyeballed by her younger brother; he was only a year younger than her but still very annoying.
“Why are you so happy? Don’t tell me, Emma is behind you,” Her brother asked with a raised eyebrow, trying to look around her.
“Huh? No, I have a date tonight.”
“What!? You’re cheating on Emma? What kind of girlfriend are you?”
“Alex, I’m not cheating on her, we decided that it would be best if we were friends instead of lovers as we both have crushes on other people, not like it is any of your business though.”
“Oh, well good because I like Emma.”
“What?”
“Not like that Carlie, I mean she’s awesome.”
“How does that sound any better?” Carlie said, shaking her head and laughing.
“Oh shut up will you, who is this new girl you like then?”
“Oh look at the time, I must get ready.”
“Aw, come on Carlie, tell me.”
“Nope,” Carlie laughed as she ran up the stairs and into her room to get ready for her date.
Carlie tried on many outfits, she was trying to find something that was not too dressy but not too underdressed either and she wanted something that made her look nice. After about twenty or so outfits, she finally settled on black skinny jeans, a red and blue plaid shirt, navy jacket, a black scarf and black doc martins.
Before Carlie knew it, it was already 7:00 pm, ‘Crap! Where’d the time go?’ she thought as she grabbed a towel. The brunette made her way to the bathroom; she turned on the water and got it to the right temperature before she undressed herself and got in. When she was finished she turned off the water and reached for her towel to dry herself off. Once dry she wrapped the towel around herself and made her way back to her bedroom to get ready. Carlie put on her outfit and made her way downstairs.
“Oh, you look nice dear, where are you off too?” Her mother asked her from the lounge room.
“I… uh… I’m going out Ma,” she replied.
“With Emma?”
“Um… no Ma, Emma and I broke up today. We both decided it would be best if we were friends because we both like someone else,” she stated before looking towards the floor.
“Well, as long as you didn’t break that girl’s heart Carlie, she’s too nice for any of that.”
“I didn’t Ma, I promise.”
“Okay then, who is this new girl, do I know her?”
“I don’t know if you do, she doesn’t want anyone to know just yet. Can you please leave it for now?”
“Okay but you best be sure you want to be with this one, don’t go crawling back to Emma if this doesn’t work out.”
“I won’t."
“Well alright then, enjoy yourself dear,” her mother said before returning back to the book she was reading.
“Thanks Ma, I will,” Carlie said, heading to the door.
The brunette made her way to Luzi’s house. Rounding the corner she was thankful she remembered the way. Walking slowly up to the apartment, she took a deep breath in before knocking on the door. Carlie waited patiently for it too open, trying to suppress her nervousness.

‘I can’t believe I asked her to come to my house for dinner, a girl, not just any girl but my best friend’s girlfriend, I mean ex-girlfriend, oh man,’ Luzi sighed as she walked into the house and placed her bag in her room. She fell onto her bed and brought her hands to her face. ‘I mean what am I going to wear? Should I dress up… no, I’m not sure I’m even into girls, damn, what are we going to eat? Should I make something or should we order in? Bloody hell, I should have thought this out some more,’ she thought as many things ran through her head as she sat up on her bed.
“First thing is to find something to wear,” she quietly said to herself before walking over to her closet and opening it. She pulled out a range of outfits and threw most of them on the floor as she quietly told herself they were all stupid. Finally she pulled out a nice looking floral, summery dress that had a range of beautiful colours in it that included a bit of red, pink, blue, purple, white and black which all meshed well together. She looked down towards her shoes and found a pair of black converse’s which she picked up. ‘Perfect, not too dressy and not too casual,’ she thought as she smiled to herself, walking towards the bathroom to get ready.
Luzi finally walked out of the bathroom after her shower, all dressed and ready, she walked into the kitchen and opened her fridge, freezer and pantry to see if there was anything decent for her to cook. She sighed in frustration when she realised she had no idea what Carlie liked. She began to panic as the realisation that a girl was coming over to watch a movie with her started to sink in even deeper than before. Without realising what the time was, she heard a knock at the door which brought her attention back to reality as she looked at the clock.
“Shit!” she said quite loudly as she made her way to the door. On the other side, Carlie couldn’t help but let out a slight giggle. Luzi finally reached the door and opened it.
“Wow,” was the only thing she said, her brain was not working as she looked Carlie up and down, taking in how good she looked. After a minute or two she finally managed to say something else.
“You… you look amazing,” she said stunned at herself for saying it and not just thinking it.
“Wow yourself,” Carlie giggled.
They stood in the doorway for a few more minutes until Carlie broke the silence. “So, are you going to invite me in or are we going to have dinner and a movie in the doorway?” she said with a wink.
“Uh, oh sorry, come in,” Luzi smiled, finally realising where she was. ‘Am I seriously doing this?’ she thought to herself as she closed the door behind them. “So I… um… I don’t know what you like to eat so I thought we could just order a pizza,” Luzi said, a little embarrassed.
“Pizza sounds great,” Carlie smiled at her.
“What sort?”
“Pepperoni pizza?”
“Good choice, that’s my favourite,” Luzi said, returning her smile.
“Mine too,” Carlie grinned.
Luzi made her way over to the phone and called up the local pizza bar that she usually got her pizza from; straight away the man on the other end recognised and greeted her. He asked her how she was and how her mother was; she responded and then asked him the same. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Carlie raise an eyebrow at her but then she shrugged and made her way over to the couch to wait for Luzi to finish on the phone. Once Luzi had finally ordered the pizza and hung up she made her way over to the couch and sat down next to Carlie.
“What was that about?”
“Oh he is a family friend; we have been going to his pizzeria for as long as I can remember, he’s a lovely man.”
“I see,” Carlie responded with a slight smile.
“Now, what movie shall we watch?”
“What’s on?”
“Well it’s a choice between Pink Panther, The Mummy Returns or Easy A,” Luzi said, looking at her seriously.
“I say Easy A because Emma Stone is the best!”
Luzi let out a slight giggle before she nodded and changed it to the channel Easy A was being shown on. “Alright, so we have about 20 minutes until the movie starts and the pizza shop is only down the road so hopefully it will be here on time, would you like a drink?” Luzi asked enthusiastically.
“Let’s hope,” Carlie said before adding, “Uh, yeah sure, what do you have?”
Luzi got up and walked over to the fridge and opened it, “There is orange juice, apple juice, coke, lemonade and water, your choice,” she added with a laugh.
“Oh tough decision, but I think I will have a coke please.”
Luzi grabbed two cans of coke and headed back over to the couch and handed Carlie one. Before she could say anything the phone rang so she got up and answered it.
“Hello, Luzi Beschenko speaking.”
“Hello Sweetie, just making sure everything is fine and I also need to ask you something.”
“Hello Mum,” she said with a weird look, looking towards the brunette sitting on the lounge which caused Carlie to slightly giggle. “Yes everything is fine and sure go head.”
“Your aunty wants to know; what you are doing on Sunday?”
“Uh, I don’t know yet, why?”
“She was hoping you could babysit for her while we go out.”
“Well, of course I will.”
“Great, so what are you up to?”
Luzi told her mum that she was watching a movie with a friend and that they ordered a pizza from the local store. After about 15 minutes there was a knock on the door and Luzi told her mum that she was excited about babysitting her cousins and that she had to go as someone was at the door, she said bye to her and hung up, she ran towards the door and opened it, the pizza was finally here. Carlie got up to pay for half of it but Luzi insisted on paying the full amount even with Carlie protesting.
“I will pay you back you know.”
“I know,” Luzi said, smiling as she closed the door. “What perfect timing, the movie is just about to start,” Luzi added as she made her way back to the couch.
“I’d say, it’s adorable of you too look after your little cousins,” Carlie said.
“I love them,” Luzi said, the smile not leaving her face.
“And that is what’s so adorable about you.”
“Thanks,” Luzi said, blushing as she looked away. ‘So this is how Emma must have felt when she first started to like Carlie. Oh boy, could I actually really like girls, well not girls in general, just this one,’ Luzi thought as she looked up towards Carlie who had a massive smile on her face.
Within minutes the movie began and both girls drew their attention to the screen, Luzi opened the pizza box and placed it in the middle of the coffee table and took a slice. She looked at Carlie and pointed towards the pizza box; Carlie leaned forward and grabbed a slice, sitting back on the couch.
Through the first half of the movie Luzi couldn’t keep her thoughts off Carlie, she tried to focus on the movie but every now and then she would steal a glance at the gorgeous brunette sitting next to her. Each time she looked in her direction she would to take a sip of her drink and swallow hard as she became light headed each time she saw her, she kept asking herself if she was really into girls; when she had any doubts about it she would look towards Carlie and all those doubts would wash away. All she felt when she looked at her was this massive attraction which made the butterflies in her stomach do back flips as the urge to kiss her was strong. An ad break came on and Luzi turned towards Carlie, taking a deep breath in and slowly breathing out before she spoke.
“Um, Carlie,” Luzi mumbled softly.
“Yes?”
Carlie turned her head and Luzi leaned into her, kissing her softly on the lips. Carlie pulled back slightly, surprised by the soft touch of Luzi’s lips on her own. Luzi looked away, embarrassed at what she had just done, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe I just kissed her.’ She turned back to look at the brunette and saw a small smile on her face. Carlie moved slowly towards Luzi and kissed her back, running her hands up her shoulders and along her neck. They moved closer to each other as their lips danced together, sending wonderful feelings through them both as the light flickering from the television ads illuminated the room.
“I SEE YOU!” someone screamed. They instantly jumped ten feet apart, their hearts pounding out of control. They looked around the room to see where the voice had come from. The frantically searched until they realised it had came from one of the ads on the tv. A few seconds later there was a loud knock at the door which made them jump again.
“Now that’s freaky,” Carlie said quietly as she tried to regain her breath from the attempted heart attack that almost happened.
Luzi couldn’t speak so all she did was nod. She got up and made her way to the door; breathing in and out she regained her composure before opening it.
“Ahh, Mrs Gaertner, how can I help you?”
“Sorry to disturb you my dear but I’m out of sugar and I was wondering if I could borrow some from you until I can get down to the shops tomorrow?” The old lady on the other side of the door asked.
“Of course, come in and I will get you some.”
The old lady followed Luzi into the apartment and noticed Carlie sitting on the lounge quietly.
“Oh sorry dear, I didn’t realise you had a friend over, I wouldn’t have disturbed you if I knew,” the lady smiled sweetly.
“Oh, no it is fine, anything for you,” Luzi said, returning the smile.
“Yeah it is no problem at all,” Carlie said from the lounge room.
Luzi placed some sugar in a jar, walked over to Mrs Gaertner and handed her the jar, she smiled to her before walking back over to the door and letting her out. She closed the door and leant against it, letting out a relieved sigh before looking over towards Carlie who also let out a sigh of relief. Luzi made her way over to the couch, sat down and continued to watch the movie without saying a word.
“That was so awkward,” Carlie finally said as another ad break came on.
“Yeah, I’m sorry,” Luzi said, looking down towards the floor in embarrassment.
“Why are you sorry?” Carlie asked, confused.
“For… um… for kissing you,” Luzi nervously said.
“Oh, don’t be silly, I kissed you back,” Carlie smiled.
“That you did.”
The movie came back on and they turned their attention back to it. For the rest of the movie they didn’t say much to each other as neither of them knew what to say so they remained silent. The credits started to play and Carlie yawned while stretching out.
“Well, thanks for a great evening, but I think I should head off now.”
“You, um… you don’t have to.”
“Well… nah, I should, will I see you tomorrow?”
“Sure.”
Carlie got up and headed towards the door as Luzi followed her.
“Night Luzi,” she smiled.
“Wait,” Luzi said, biting her lip nervously.
“Yeah?”
Luzi leaned in and gave her a soft kiss on the lips, lingering a bit before pulling away.
“Goodnight Carlie,” Luzi said after regaining her composure.
Carlie smiled before she opened the door and left, Luzi closed the door after she had vanished and leaned against it, this time she closed her eyes while she took a deep breath in and out before smiling to herself and opening them. She walked over and sat down on the couch, bringing her hands towards her face, letting out a sigh.
‘I can’t believe we kissed three times and what’s even more frightening is that it didn’t feel wrong at all, it well… it felt normal and nice. I can honestly say I am falling for Carlie hard and fast,’ Luzi thought as she smiled too herself while she began to clean up the mess from the earlier events of the night.
