Three Sentences for 2010-12-26

Dec 26, 2010 22:51

It has been a while since I wrote a 'three sentences' post, but I'd like to get back into the habit ... I've been leading what feels like an unreflective life of late. I've actually been reflecting (and projecting) quite a bit, living almost anywhere *except* the present. Ah, well.

Today, as the day after Christmas, was for using gifts and recovering from the holiday, and in that our household did admirably. There was a lot to recover from - A and P spent nine hours cooking with me as sous chef and knight errand. Their triumph is worth memorializing, and fits in today as we will be enjoying it for some time as leftovers. They prepared a full roasted goose; a prune, chestnut dressing for it; a spiral cut ham with a pecan bourbon molasses glaze; an oyster stuffing; squash and parsnips with maple rosemary glaze and almonds; roast brussel sprouts with mushrooms and fried shallots; chard with garlic and onions; a Christmas pudding with whiskey sauce (prepared over seven days). That was all the meal. It was followed by truffles (gianduja and 'Rusalka' russian tea chocolates); flour-less chocolate torte; that insane Christmas pudding; many many cookies including P's traditional 'candy cane' crack-laden variety; and actual, bona fide death-in-one-serving egg nog.

So today was about recovering from that nonsense, with some leftovers for hair-of-the-dog curative sustenance. We also went sledding as Cape Cod got socked with a storm that closed roads in the rest of Eastern MA and prompted a state of emergency. I heard that NYC had an 'thunderstorm blizzard', which I thought was impossible for scientific principles that I've never understood; I guess I need to look that up now.

Soon: bed, and figuring out what I can do in terms of work tomorrow.
