This month's RoundTable will meet at Earth Fair this Friday evening from 7-9 PM. (Let me know if you need directions.)
Our topic will be "Stories for a Thousand Years."
This will be a two-part discussion. In the first part, we will consider the question: Why have some myths (like the Trojan War) stuck around and remained relativly well-known for thousands of years... where other myths vanish in the mist of time, either forgotten entierly, or known only to a collection of academic specialists. What makes a myth a "story for 1000 years?"
In the second part we will talk about the stories our culture is generating. What are the myths of our day, and what sets them appart as myths from simple pop-fiction? Which stories from the last (say) 100-150 years will still be remembered in the year 3000? Think about it, and, if you wish, bring your list.
Hope I see you there!
