I bet everybody already knows this, but I just read it last night!
A trio of young British actors have joined Alicia Vikander and Kit Harington in WWI drama “A Testament of Youth,” according to The Daily Mail. Taron Egerton, Colin Morgan and Alexandra Roach are now all part of the cast of the biopic of pacifist Vera Brittain’s early years.
James Kent is directing the film based on Brittain’s own autobiography of the same name. Brittain lived into her 70s and wrote three memoirs of her life before and after World War I, but Vikander will take on her first, which revolved around her entrance to the University of Oxford, her romance with Roland Leighton, and the onset of World War I, which would ultimately take the lives of her fiance, her brother and two friends. The bulk of the narrative centers around Brittain’s work as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse during the war, serving in Lond, Malta and France and her inability to return to “normal” life after the disillusionment of war. Harington was cast as her fiance earlier this month. Egerton will play Vera’s brother Edward, Roach Vera’s friend Winifred, and Morgan a schoolmate of Edward’s who was there for her after the war claimed so many lives.
Egerton, a relatively unknown young Brit whose lone screen credit was two episodes of ITV detective series “Inspector Lewis,” will find his changed when 2015 hits and he headlines “The Secret Service,” Matthew Vaughn’s big budget summer blockbuster comic book adaptation. Morgan played the titular “Merlin” on all five seasons of the Authurian legend fantasy adaptation series. Roach played a younger version of Meryl Streep in Margaret Thatcher biopic “The Iron Lady” and most recently did Channel 4 series “Utopia,” now set for an American reboot from David Fincher.
So that's what? A whole week since Mojo closed in the West End? That boy leaves no crickets chirping in his wake, that's for certain. (Unlike some Merlin co-stars I can think of COUGH bradley COUGH).
