In today's uncertain environment, is this a good time to start job hunting?
In other news, despite our Prime Minister's assurance that we are not affected by the banking crrisis/ecconomic crisis in the US, we are having to jump through hoops on our mortgage renewal. Originally G's friend had an offer set up for us, but was in no hurry because our renewal date is the beginning of November. Jump to a couple of weeks ago, when he calls up G and says that the offer is no longer available, because of BMO's exposure to the US markets they've changed the rules. Then he calls up again a week later. Now none of the options we were looking at are available through BMO. So with less than a month before renewal, we have to chase around to get other bank offers.
I don't know what people with even average credit ratings are going through, but this is pretty sucktastic. Still, HSBC has come through with a pretty good package, we've done the letter of intent and now we just have to get an appraisal on the house and do the legal. Sigh.
Our system, where your 25 (or whatever) year mortgage needs to be renewed every so often makes no sense to me - but I am not a banker, I am an engineer. I prefer logic ;)
In brighter news, i downloaded Anathem by Neal Stephenson and, even though I am only a little way into it, I think I am going to enjoy this. I've been re-reading a bunch of Terry Pratchett (or reading for the first time, in some cases), and even though I am enjoying them, something a little less like brain candy is in order.
And I am NOT reading my book club's October book. A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Nope. I read September's (Eat, Pray, Love by Elisabeth Gilbert), but the discussion was so fluffy that I don't feel like putting in the effort required for A Fine Balance (not because I am illiterate, but because it is not the type of book I enjoy reading) for a high level chat.
