Catching Fire was SO GOOD. They completely redeemed themselves for too much shaky cam in the first.
Also, Finnick was cast perfectly. And Joanna. AH. I was worried about her especially.
Also, a real thought I had driving home from the movie: "Man, I almost feel bad for Miley Cyrus because she obviously can't watch that movie without feeling totally awkward. Especially since her ex-boyfriend is in love with Katniss."
And then I went on to think about how that must be awkward a lot in Hollywood with them all dating each other. And then they can't go enjoying all these movies because all they will be able to think about is how that person used to be a part of their life and no longer is.
And only after all of that was I like "oh, yeah. I guess he's not really in love with Katniss because she is a fictional character."
The 2nd book was by far my favorite so I'm glad they did such a good job. Unfortunately being a movie and having time constraints you didn't get the depth/weight of a lot of the events and such that were going on and it all seemed to happen a lot faster than in the book, but there is really nothing you can do to fix that unless you make a 6 hour movie.
Small spoilers, if you haven't read them.
Was Plutarch that obvious in the book? I mean, he was so genuine in the dance with Katniss in the movie and while it's natural to be suspicious of everyone I feel like I didn't expect him to be a "good guy" in the book. And before you say "well you expected it in the movie because you've read the book" - it's been a long time. And I forget things very easily. And that was something I'd mostly forgotten and didn't remember until I'd been watching the movie and I was sitting there going, "He helps doesn't he? I think he helps. I think he's behind saving her with the rest of them. Is he?" And then as soon as he left Snow in the room by himself I remembered. But it took awhile. I mean, before he popped up in the movie I'd forgotten that oh yeah, they killed Seneca Crane.
Lastly, I almost kind of forgot about the fact that Peeta was captured. As her and Joanna were spooling out the wire and she looked back at him I was like "OH GOD THIS IS THE LAST TIME THEY WILL SEE EACH OTHER IN FOREVER SHIT."
