CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Sync the Tempest from Tales of the Abyss
In-Game Name: Sub-Lieutenant Synchron fon Elemni (Sync for short, of course.)
Age: 15
Gender: He’s got some dangly doos down there.
Position & Ship (first and second choice for position please): Strategist on the Victoria II (Navigator was my second choice, but that spot was already reserved. D8)

Appearance:

At first glance, Sync looks to be nothing more than an ordinary (pre-pubescent) teenager. He stands at a meager height of 5’4 and dwarfs most of the crew in both age and size, but he quickly makes up for that in other areas. The teen has a slim physique with short limbs, but they’re each reinforced with toned muscle from years of training. Sync has broader shoulders and narrower hips than his brother, and he’s rather light skinned despite spending most of his time outside.

While Ion chose to keep a more tamed haircut, Sync’s style is anything but with his own green locks jettisoning forward in front of his face His eyes are also of the same vibrant shade, which would actually look somewhat attractive if he wasn’t prone to wearing a scowl all the time. That same contorted expression is what also hides more gentle features like his heart-shaped face, but that might be for the best considering his nature. The last, and probably most irritating, feature about him is abnormally high voice, which has the tendency of getting him pinned as a girl more often than he’d like.

Sync is most often seen in his uniform, having no qualms with the issued attire.

Personality:

Unless someone ever happened to come across them together, no one would ever believe that Sync and Ion were related, much less identical twins. While the younger of the two holds a more gentle and forgiving soul, the older is less opt to agree that everyone is deserving of the same, kind treatment.

Sync is the type of character you’d either butt heads with or scramble away from. He isn’t exactly antisocial since he has no problem getting in someone’s face when they’re doing something that rubs him the wrong way. In fact, he actually enjoys making everyone around him miserable and isn’t afraid to stand his ground and beat them until they’re broken. It’s probably a combination of determination and sadism that keeps him focused and he can be downright murderous when he’s pushed too far.

However, despite Sync’s cold attitude, he mostly takes things seriously. He does his job surprisingly well and follows orders without hesitation, but only if it’s someone who’s of a higher rank. The teen is very studious, and because he’s good at gathering and organizing information, the role of a strategist comes easily to him. Of course, he’s usually left without much to do besides agree with Admiral von Karma’s plans or risk losing his rank. In the end, it doesn’t really matter to him as long as he gains a promotion out of it.

The teen hardly ever wears a genuine smile, not even for the people he gives a damn about which can be counted with the fingers of one hand. He actually seems a little apathetic around his acquaintances, but that’s only because he has a different way of expressing his feelings.

Maybe it’s just because Ion was lucky enough to hoard all the social genes.

Abilities/Weapons:

Sync has always had an interest in the martial arts (or any equivalent) and as such trained under different styles over the course of nearly a decade. His body is designed more so for speed, so styles that often rely on strength are obviously out of his league. Yet that isn’t to say that the teen is as weak as a limp noodle, he’s just physically incapable of using more force than his own weight. This is why he’s incorporated magic into his own unique style that includes using gales of wind to give him some extra force in his blows.

It’s because of his expertise that he excels at things like CQC and hand-to-hand combat. He’s also had standard military training so he knows how to operate basic firearms as well, albeit grudgingly.

Weaknesses:

Probably the most obvious weakness about him is his body itself. Since it’s ‘designed’ more so for speed, it tends to falter greatly when it comes to strength and endurance. It’s relatively easy to overpower him when someone knows what they’re doing and his stamina can only last for so long if he’s being thrown around like some sort of rag doll. Sync also finds using firearms to be intolerable, claiming that only the weak use weapons and is ridiculously stubborn when it comes to deciding the appropriate time to use them.

When it comes to his personality Sync has managed to horde every short stick in the pile. Whatever isn’t his strength is automatically his weakness, and he tends to make that very obvious when he talks to other people.

But what most people don’t know is that his supposedly cocky and extroverted behavior is really just a ruse, and in reality he’s at a constant struggle to hide the emptiness and uselessness he feels inside. Having been forced to believe that he was nothing but a burden because of something he had no control over, Sync has gained an unmatchable inferiority complex.

Also, though it may seem like he hates everyone equally, it’s obvious that Sync’s anger skyrockets whenever he’s in the presence of anyone from Vohemar no matter how friendly they ‘supposedly’ are. Most brush it off as lecturing from his parents, but they couldn’t be farther from the truth if they tried.

History:

(Note: I didn’t have much of a choice but to incorporate a lot of Ion into my history, but Sync’s nature pretty much ensures that he won’t go sharing it to anyone. If someone does try for him I have no problems changing it around so that they’re happy as well.

And if someone ever applies for a Florian? Well… I suppose they’re on their own. 8|)

Being born wealthy in a prosperous city wasn’t what granted someone a one-way ticket to Happiness. In fact, in some cases it was the very thing that brought lifelong misery.

Like all nobles, the fon Elemni family prided themselves in their prestigious reputation and were no strangers to raising children for the sake of keeping the bloodline strong.

Sync was born one minute earlier than his brother Ion, and because they were identical twins they were both treated more or less the same. That wasn’t to say it was cruel and unusual, however, since both boys were given everything they ever hoped for. Their parents were kind and loving and the twins were raised in an environment suitable enough that one day they’d grow up to be perfect gentlemen.

Both boys lived happily together; practically inseparable even when one was bedridden with illness. Of course it’d often lead to both children getting sick, but that was okay for them. It was a wonderful feeling to have someone to lean back on, experiencing the same thing as him, and Sync was naïve enough to think that it could last forever.

Yet all of this shattered into nothingness when the older of the two, only five at the time, was kidnapped right from under the family’s noses and held ransom by Vohemar pirates. Having been so young at the time Sync simply couldn’t react as he was taken below the deck and held there for six straight months. The conditions were so poor that he almost died due to either starvation or sickness, but he was always nursed to back to health before the cycle repeated itself. It was almost unbearable to be separated from anyone for so long, to have little to no contact at a time where it was most crucial. The pirates were stubborn with their price, constantly raising the ransom when the family agreed to pay a certain price. It was by mere luck that Sync was rescued by a patrolling ship, but the damage had already been done.

Saying that Sync was emotionally disturbed was an understatement. He could barely look his own family in the eye without that perpetual look of horror on his face. His twin almost didn’t recognize him, but their bond had been so close that Ion tried to rekindle what they once had. Yet it just wasn’t the same.

A rift had begun to grow between himself and his family. To any observer it would’ve seemed like everything had settled back to normal, but that was hardly the case. This wasn’t the son that they wanted, and that many times Sync had eavesdropped he heard how much they wish he’d died. They began to push him aside for the light of his brother, giving Ion all the love and affection that Sync craved so much. Of course, because they still had a reputation to keep up they ultimately allowed him to do whatever he wanted.

With no one to really turn to, Sync relied on fighting to see him through those lonely times. It didn’t hurt as much when he was distracted by physical pain, and it came to the point where he was practically obsessed with training and gaining skill. In his mind, if he could defend himself then no one overpower him like that ever again.

But it didn’t stop there. As he grew older he became all the more apparent with whom his captors really were, and thus ultimately stemmed his hatred for Vohemar. He was absolutely repulsed by how barbaric its people lived, seeing them as nothing more than traitors to the mother country. It was his ultimate goal in life to completely obliterate anyone willingly associated with the damned country. It may have seemed like irrational at the time, but Sync would never forgive them for what they’d done.

There were many reasons as to why he joined the military: one was that part of him still strived to be accepted by his family, and the other was to gain power so he could finally live his dream of destroying Vohemar. He joined as soon as he was old enough, and since then became completely immersed with everything involved in reaching the top. Whenever Sync wasn’t training he was studying, practically to the point where he’d bring a book to his bed if he was close to collapsing from sickness.

Probably one of the most efficient ways of propelling potential soldiers forward was to allow them to tag along on patrolling ships, and Sync was mindful of everything he experienced as he tried to take everything in. Yet the last thing he ever expected was to help stowaway a complete stranger when they stopped at Abantiara. Actually, there wasn’t much he could’ve done to prepare for seeing a naked girl wandering around at the edge of Abantiare, trying his best not to gape and failing miserably. Yet there was something about her that made him empathize, and in the end helped her get away from the polluted town using the same ship he traveled in.

Sync was at a complete loss with what to do with her, so he did the only thing he could really think of. After making sure she was at least somewhat presentable, the twelve year old announced to his family that they were now betrothed. Having already strove so far from the time he was rescued, the family was completely shocked with the change before agreeing, albeit warily. The only catch was that he must remain the military, which in itself was a bargain he was thrilled for.

Sync spent the last three years working his way through the Acadamy, finally landing a position on the prestigious Victoria II a little after his fifteenth birthday.
