Warmth of the Cool Sand

I fell asleep alone last night, I knew you were coming but as the hours faded I could not fight slumber. Rays of morning sun upon my back.. vibrant and yet they pale to the softness of your touch. I do not open my eyes and yet I see you, beautiful. You smile and you are the galaxy. Whispers of love fill the air around us and you beckon me to your side. The sparkle of two small emeralds join the chorus of colors within the room, for I am certain you are not here as a dream. Nervous? Why do my hands shake as they reach for you.. I am lost in a moment of complete wonder each time we touch. Fingertips fall upon your hand, my content sigh ends in a scream; you are gone. Slowly the vision of you becomes a part of the wind around me. Lost within the desert, alone without your heart. My knees are the first to feel the sand, a rift opens to my body as I sink within.. searching for warmth. I am covered, surrounded as I once was by your love. One with the entire planet of sand yet I am frozen. A chill within prevents the suns, the sand, the warmth of the wind to comfort me. It is a race, between the grains of sand and the silent tears.. one of them will drown me. I cannot move, for you are here somewhere and if I listen hard enough, imagine long enough.. you will become more than my mirage.
