So then you have a situation where if the mother is in a life threatening situation where it's her life or the child's and it's illegal to perform the abortion? Then what?
What if the mother isn't conscious to make that choice? What if the next of kin isn't available and it has to be a medical professional's decision based on what's best for the living patient?
It's too grey to be black and white, and I honestly think that the legislation is in place for particular reasons and not just because a woman's changed her mind after 9 months. I mean, seriously, most women who are tossing up the idea generally choose NOT to abort by the end of the first trimester - they're not going to change their mind after 9 months again and say sod it, I'm about to pop, let's just kill it now and be done with it.
I think you'll find it's in place for that length of time for situations where there's a medical need to terminate the pregnancy.
Not that I can say what it's like to be pregnant. I doubt I'll ever be able to carry a child to term personally. I'm more likely to be fighting to adopt - assuming I can actually manage to save up the money required to pay the exorbitant fees.
I can understand it from that point of view and I do support that but I believe, as you said, that abortion should not be used as a form of birth control. If they want to legalise it, I say go ahead but put limitations on it, y'know?
