Everyday he felt himself slipping, edging closer and closer to the edge. He knew that one day he would crumble, like a house made of cards. He’d fall, he’d lose. And he couldn’t wait.
Just being in the human’s presence made his heart quicken, something stirring deep within his soul. He’d see the mussed hair, bright eyes and he felt his grace slipping. He’d catch a glimpse at those lips, a deft tongue licking them lightly and he was lost.
He was patient though, just waiting for that last push for him to topple over the edge and into the arms of the man he was created to protect.
Waiting, slipping, falling, losing. And he couldn’t wait.
