Let's see how this one goes over.
It Might Have Been a Wall of Glass
Football/Soccer RPS, Carlos Bocanegra/DaMarcus Beasley, PG-13
100 words
Background: Fulham played Manchester City on Monday and both boys scored.
He doesn’t consider his opponent, doesn’t have to rationalize that DaMarcus is not his teammate for the next ninety minutes. He thinks he might be helped by the presence of Brian and Clint, and the cruel sense that DaMarcus is the one in the wrong place but he also realizes that DaMarcus is just fine so he abandons that theory.
None of his uncertainty, however, stops him from barely suppressing a smile over DaMarcus’s goal or from noticing the saucy grin directed at him after his goal. (It is the same grin he remembers descending from his waist last summer.)
A/N: Title is from Paul Muldoon's "Boundary Commission."
In slightly related news, I am falling madly in love with the MLS in a way I didn't expect.
