[21] I need a place to rest my head...

[Chase found it hard some days to get up anymore, the days reminded him too much of what he had lost. So he had started getting up during the nights so he wouldn't have to deal with the way things just made it all hurt more. Rarely ever now did he leave his rooms, just for the dogs and often he trusted Zane to coral Zeus back into the rooms so he wouldn't have to go out. Chase knew it was unhealthy for him to be like this but how could he go on normally with the last bit of light in his life gone. There was no going on.

He found himself wandering one night with thoughts centered on the little girl that had barely reached one and a half years of age. The little girl he had put so much of what had been left of his heart into. And now she too was gone. What did he have left? Two puppies and someone who wasn't even sure they loved him. The Crow laughed a little and then turned his feet toward the couartyard that he had chosen to bury Seren in after she hadn't come back like the rest of them tended to do. It was his worst fear and it had come to life. It had taken Chase days to come to grips with the lack of a little girl in his life and even now he wasn't sure he was completely there.

All he could do was blame himself.

Because it was his fault.

The next time Chase came back to himself he found himself kneeling in front of her grave already, a pile of flowers in his hand to join others he'd left there nights before. White carnations (remembrance), daisies (innocence), and pansies (loving thoughts). His forehead touched the top of the cold tombstone with the inscription Seren Smith, Beloved Daughter with her birth and death date etched below. Chase lifted a hand, finger tracing the letters of her name, eyes squeezed shut as tears threatened to fall and a choked sob managed to find its way out.]
