school ramblings

So last Friday I ran into the head of my graphic design program at a pub in my hometown (Old Bag of Nails). I was having dinner and drinks with Angela, and he was very clearly on a date with a new lady friend. I must preface this by saying that the man intimidates the hell out of me - I really don't know why - so usually I'm a either an idiotic klutz around him or a brainless mute. But I had had a couple drinks, was all gussied up for the evening, and had just finished finals, so I was feeling pretty good. At one point he sees me and comes over to our table, I introduce him to Angela, and then he proceeds to tell me that my 3D animation final was one of the best he's seen submitted. Mind you, he's not even my professor for that class. I was taken aback and so SO happy that I quickly reverted to the mindless fool he's so used to seeing. I think we parted ways without me stuttering or throwing bean dip on him, but I can't be sure.

I really don't think this has ever happened to me before. I speak to all the other professors there like equals, and I don't remember ever feeling so inadequate at MHC. What the hell is this? To all of you thinking that I have a crush on him, I'm quite sure that's not it. If you have any tips to help me be more cool, I'd appreciate them. Although I'm not sure if awkwardness at this age is even curable.

In related news, I've been told by several of my peers that "Bar Abby" is WAY cooler than "School Abby". Apparently I exude such a prim demeanor at school that I have a reputation for being serious. Yeah so next semester I'll be working on that as well. I'm thinking a few cocktails before class couldn't hurt.

The environment at ITT could not be any more different from MHC. First off, I was literally the only female in two of my classes last semester. Also, I am constantly around boy humor (keep in mind it's a tech school, so a lot of these guys are crawling out of their parents' basements to come to class). Amazingly, I'm really enjoying it though. I approach it partly from an anthropological stand point, but it's mainly fueled by bona fide curiosity. So far, I've learned that explosions are cool, genital-related humor is never not funny, and their adeptness at war video games is directly related to their social standing.

P.S. Livejournal is being very weird - deleting things and changing all of my defaults - sorry if it won't let you comment
