for spirograph

Three Perfect Skies in the Life and Career of Lewis Nixon, and One in the Memories of Richard Winters by raedbard - 10,726
summary: "We look like boy soldiers, is what Dick Winters says." Dick and Nix, through the days.
recommendation: Beautifully written and ranging throughout the years, I think this was the fic that I wanted to read the moment I finished Band of Brothers. The interactions are perfect, the dialogue is so sharply written, I am totally in love with this fic.

Leave-Taking by likethesun2 - 1,389
quote: It's only perplexing because it's never happened before, not in the low bunks of Toccoa or the crude shelters of Normandy.
recommendation: Perfectly in character, the slow draw of inevitability--love it!

Boys Missing Shoes by illiterate - 2,548
quote: “Do I see what?” you ask him, and you want to see what he is trying to tell you in his own brand of avoidance, you really want to see. You just cannot find the point in this fairytale summer story, you don’t understand what lakeside manors and fancy cars and dogs have to do with you being harsh or why you won’t kiss him, even though you suspect you might now if he asks because you like how incoherent he was a moment ago, and you like how the color rose in his cheeks due to something other than drink.
recommendation: The writing in this fic. Ugh, SO PERFECT.

Window, London, Paris, St. Petersburg by omphale23 - 1,437
summary: Four points in time, four places in the world.
recommendation: This piece is beautiful in its fragmented writing--the way that the author gives you these glimpses into these scenes and implies the rest. Perfect in its composition and the way the theme is drawn together. <3

It Happened One Night by raquel_el_pillo - 7,633
summary: Nixon gets the chance to do the day before the big jump over and over and over (or, Every Fandom Needs Groundhog's Day Fic).
recommendation: Maybe I'm just a huge sucker for groundhog day fics, idk. EITHER WAY, this was written really well and I love the Nixon characterization in this.

Finding Home by destina - 4,911
summary: Civilian life is challenging for Nix.
recommendation: The tone of this fic is nostalgic and it draws you in entirely, keeping your thoughts right there with Nixon's. Beautifully beautifully written, perfect atmosphere, everything about this is just gorgeous. <33

i say no world can hold a you by arabesque05 - 882
summary: lewis nixon: on marriage, and leaving, and how to waste a perfectly useless yale education on dick winters.
recommendation: This author utilizes such a sparse but beautiful style that works for this piece really brilliantly.

these, our bodies possessed by light (tell me we'll never get used to it) by headspin_x - 4,080
quote: He feels Dick’s fingers close lightly around his elbow and for a fleeting moment, he can feel the edge of forever at his feet; the curve of the earth. He tries to hold on but it always melts away, slipping through the gaps in his fingers like ashes in the palm of his hand, sand in an hourglass. They all have a countdown.
recommendation: Beautiful writing--I adore some of the turns of phrases the author employs in this. The fragmented feeling really persists in this piece and it's a style that does an incredible job reflecting Nixon's characterization and mentality.

Save a Baby Boy and (Suggestively) Lick a Stamp by raquel_el_pillo - 1,264
summary: Dick takes a time out after watching Normandy burn and can't get no satisfaction.
recommendation: The way that this is written is actually kind of fascinating, where the author chose to put in all of the breaks--it's reminiscent of ee cummings whom I absolutely adore. I think it works incredibly well in the context of this piece, the way that it reflects Winters' mindset after losing so many men.

and eventually the stars will be revealed by sound_of_bells - 2,767
summary: Nix has also grown to hate the moon, this is the strangest development that war has somehow wrought on him, down to some inherent slip of something that is his being, now, he used to be the type to reel off lines of Shakespeare about the moon to pretty girls wearing too much lipstick and blouses that unbuttoned easily. Lewis Nixon wanders through the war.
recommendation: This is the kind of writing I aspire to have. It's so dynamic, flowing with the action--all crushed together in tight scenes and then allowing itself to relax again during calmer scenes. The author pulls this off effortlessly. The characterization is also perfect. Love this piece--it's more like art than fic proper. <33
