Thank You For Smoking ifellover July 6 2006, 00:55:53 UTC
aw thanks nate!

but yeah every quitter is different. what it takes to get them to quit is different for everyone. For some it's the will to be proud of oneself. For others it's developing a severe hatred of the thing. I'd imagine that since he was forced to quit, didnt do it willingly, then that probably gave him a type of reaction formation where he bitter about not getting to smoke, and takes it out on smokers. doesnt want to be alone in his endeavor, doesnt want to hate the wife that made him, because if he liked the friend and didnt mind him still smoking, then that would mean he'd be okay with smoking in general, and if he wants to smoke, and he's okay with it, then that means the wife is the evil outside force on his habit, and that would give him no control, so he'd like to believe that he had control in the decision, and the only way to do that would be to hate the act and try to get others to join him. We don't get angry at such people, we pity them for not being stronger people, and needing an ultimatum to do something that is up to choice.
Although I admire ultimatums when it saves lives, but in the end, the healthiest way out of it is by personal choice, and we today can't expect that much of people.
