Sticking a toe back in the fannish waters: Happy 2018, have a snowflake!

Jan 01, 2018 17:49

So, DW/LJ, it's been long time no see. I figured the Snowflake Challenge is a good place to stick my proverbial toe back into the fannish/journaling waters to see if I can spend a bit more time in creative pursuits in 2018.

Day 1

In your own space, talk about why you're participating in Snowflake and, if you’ve participated in the past, how the challenge has affected you. What drew you to it? What did you take away from it? What do you hope to accomplish this year? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I've been in fandom for a long time - I'm a mid-1990s dinosaur, get off my lawn you young whippersnappers - and I miss the fun, feedback, and general conversations that used to happen in the old LJ communities.  Fandom has definitely changed since those days - a bit for the better, a bit for the worse, and a lot for the Tumblr style of communication, which has its pluses but IMO makes interaction a lot more challenging.  I really like this annual challenge because it's a throwback to the give-and-take style I loved in the heyday of LiveJournal.  I know there are a few of us out there who prefer this format, and hopefully this will help us find one another.

...Plus, anything that pushes me to get my fandom mojo back is a good thing, because I've missed it and this space!
