Van Halen---Eddie
The White Stripes---Jack
Big Wreck/Thornley---Ian
The Tea Party---Jeff
Eric Clapton
A list. In no particular order a list of my favorite LIVING guitarists. Why a list? Because after this past Saturday it now looks as such:
Van Halen---Eddie
The White Stripes---Jack
Big Wreck/Thornley---Ian
The Tea Party---Jeff
Eric Clapton
The White Stripes concert was beyond mind-blowing. It's nice to see that there are still guys out there who play for the love of their music and for the fans. Jack was like a little kid in a candy shop up on stage. It really restored my faith that music hasn't COMPLETELY gone to shit. It's nice to see that there are some bands who are more concerned with their ability to write and perform a great song, rather than see how many words they can cram into one song-title. I've long since been tired of the Fallout Boys, Panic! at the Discos, My Chemical Romances, and so on and so forth. To them, it's more important to create a scene and lead a heard of sheep along than have any musical credibility at all.
Anyhow, back to the Stripes. The funny thing with Jack is that his singing is B- at best on 85% of live songs, yet it's still one of the most electrifying experiences ever. In my opinion, in terms of modern rock performers, only Jeff Martin has more skill with string instruments than Jack does. Seven Nation Army live is basically 100 times better than on CD, as are most of the big singles. The reason being that he'll take the time to perhaps improvise during the solos. Not to mention his ability to let the crowd dictate the tempo of the set. It's phenomenal.
As for life, it probably couldn't get much better unless I were living outside of Canada. Seeing as how I haven't updated in awhile, here's a small rundown:
Not even a week into moving back to Alberta, not only did we have an apartment and a car, but I was employed. It's pretty sweet being assistant manager in training at Music World. I get sweet discounts, all the supervisor perks of being a manager, yet with only half the responsibilities. That's not to say I couldn't run the store for a few months, it's more that I don't have to concern myself to the point of stressing out over many things. Raise will be forthcoming shortly too once I'm switched to full-on assistant manager.
We mostly have everything we need for the apartment too. The only things missing are some pots and pans. Until then, the microwave is our best friend.
The apartment itself is very sweet. Huge living room, decent sized bedroom, well equipped kitchen (with dining nook...although the rabbit has essentially stolen that), and a balcony. All for a measly $825/month. OK, so 825$ isn't measly, but for the size and area that we are in, it's fantastic.
Life is great. I'm out of the dump that is my hometown, away from all the negative bullshit that came with it. Isn't it amazing what a change of scenery and people can do?
-Out of debt
-Got an apartment
-Management job at a MUSIC store where I make salary instead of some weak hourly wage I'd be making back home as a cashier or something equally lame.
-Best of all, I'm around and with friends and people who have much wider mindsets.
It's been great not being constantly harassed by people who think that they know best for everyone.
Not to mention, tickets for Tegan and Sara on the 25th of September. The grass really is MUCH greener on the other side...not to mention less toxic.
