Though, I've always rather thought that fear is important. Helpful, you know? Without fear, you can't... be brave, for example. It's really rather essential. ( COME ON, LIGHTER, COOPERATE. ) We need the negative to appreciate the positive.

( ffuuu, lighter failure. ) I'm so sorry, do you have, uh... ( And she holds up the useless lighter. )

Sure do! [Here, have his lighter.] You can keep it.

Thank you. That's very generous, but it's all right, really. ( Ahhh, success. Jules holds the lighter back out to her new hero. )

To whom do I owe my thanks?

Are you sure? Because I've got another one. [He's actually got about three in his pockets, but hey. There's a little, awkward moment before he continues.]

My name's Milen.

What's yours?

Oh! Well, in that case, I'd be glad to take it off your hands. ( She beams, and slips it into her pocket. )

Jules! Grumley. ( Offering a hand to shake, very enthusiastically. She sort of radiates enthusiasm. ) It's very nice to meet you, Milen. ( Although she repeats his name a little questioningly, just to make sure she's pronouncing it right. )

So, what do you think about change?

[Milen's apparent uneasiness brushes off with a grin when she offers her hand in such a friendly manner. He's more than happy to take it.] It's nice to meet you too, Jules Grumley!

[He takes out another cigarette, taking the moment to answer he before lighting it.] Change? Well... [Hmm.] Change is good. It can be good, I mean, as long as no one gets hurt. But everything changes with or without intention or fear, right?

( When he grins, she beams. Good, awkwardness averted!

She just exhales some smoke as he talks, thoughtfully tapping the filter end of the cigarette against her wrist. ) My sentiments exactly. I like to think change can be for the better, more often then not. Healthy, you know? Part of life.

[He lights the cigarette as she goes on, taking a drag with a nod.]

Oh, yes, I know what you mean. [Milen looks very much engaged in this conversation now.] It seems to me that none of us would really go anywhere without change, you know? I even met a bunch of people who were really sad about always doing the same things every day.

Exactly! That's exactly what I mean. Change is... alarming, sometimes, and scary, but ultimately it's probably the much better thing. At the very least, you can live through new, previously unencountered experiences.

( Oh! And that further peaks her interest. ) Really? What sort of group were they?

[He nods, arches and furrows his brows with focus as he listens.]

Yes, I'd hope so... as long as they're welcome. No one likes to be forced to these things. [a hesitant pause.] I think.

[And back to the regular tone.] Well, not really a group as much as... people I met in my travels. [He still has to remind himself to say 'travels', not 'quest'.] Most of them were used to a routine. [he looks away and gestures with his hand, trying to remember the right word.] And they said something about feeling they were stagnating?

Well, no, but-- if something happens, one should make the best of it, yes? ( UNFALTERING OPTIMISM. )

Ah, I see. ( She takes a drag of her cigarette. ) That... stagnating feeling, it doesn't sound at all pleasant. ( Taking a moment to think it over, Jules leans against this... very handy wall. ) I mean, so far as feelings go, that would surely be rather low down on the scale. Perhaps around a two out of ten?

So, where did you travel? Lots of exciting places?
