Plato posited a theory called the Allegory of the Cave. Everything we see in this realm is nothing but a flicker of a shadow on a cave wall cast by moving forms that we cannot see. Chained in the cave, all we know is the shadow. If we left the cave, we would see the true forms that cast the shadows... but the light outside is blinding and so all we know is the safety of the cave itself. [a quiet smile] I'm not sure I believe it but it's an interesting thought.

That is why I dropped RS straight after GCSEs and didn't dare touch Philosophy. [ bluntly: ] Gibberish.

It's not religion! [with a slightly pained expression] It's philosophy. Religion requires you to believe without questioning. Philosphy requires you to question everything.
