... it appears I haven't actually updated in a while.

I too, am sick. I have been exposed to the fourth grade cooties (some call it a cold). Donna, my mentor teacher, actually sent me to the nurse yesterday to have my temperature checked. It was 98.7. It continues to be 98.7 today, actually. I think I probably drank over 80 ounces of water yesterday because my throat was so scratchy I felt like I was thirsty all the time. I was also in the bathroom every twenty minutes as a result :). I feel like I may have broken an important law of physics with the amount of mucus I'm producing. I seriously think I've blown and coughed more than twice my body weight in mucus over the past few days. Seriously though, gross. I sound worse today than I did yesterday, but the infection has moved from my throat to my chest and I'm actually feeling better. I've also medicated for the first time today so that may also be part of it as well. Breathing through my nose again is a pleasant experience. Another thing which is annoying is that because I've been eating soup and drinking tea, the only thing I've managed to do is burn my tongue and roof of my mouth. I'm sure I've told you much more than you ever cared to know about my phlegm production, so moving ever forward...

My internship ends on Tuesday. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing, and I'm certain that the cold is weighing in on my opinion :). I know that it's been a fabulous experience and I'm really  happy I did it. It has raised a lot of questions for me, and part of it is because this class is so unusual and there are a lot of students who simply do not care. I can barely even handle Vicki not caring, I can't really cope with 5-10 fourth graders who don't care. I'm not sure if I have the charisma and energy to motivate students in the long-term. That being the case, should I teach elementary school or should I teach middle or high school where the effect does not need to be as long and serves as more of an intervention. I'm not sure I could cope with teenage drama affecting my class. I think my biting wit and sarcasm would be most appreciated in 7th or 8th grade, but I'm not sure I can deal with 7th or 8th grade people. These are things I should probably find out, since in California, teaching middle school requires a different credential. From time to time, I also consider the possibility of teaching deaf or special ed students but I really don't know if I have the energy for that, also that's slightly more school. :shrugs:

Finals are coming up quickly. I have two papers due on the monday after vicki's graduation, which means I should probably write them before I leave, since I don't know what condition I'll be in on Sunday to write them. Then the following week, I start summer school and then CTY again. I'll be back to 14 hour days again this summer, but both things are only six weeks long, so that's nice. I'll be taking Spanish from 6:30-10:30pm, hopefully the professor does not actually keep us that long. We'll see how that works out.

BUSY!
