finally got all those dumb shirts done at work. couldn't be happier about it. if I go to work tomorrow (and I think it is rather probable that I will) this will be the second week in a row that I have worked all five days of the week. that has got to be some sort of record. now, how long will it be before they don't need to call me in for a week or two? this is why I cannot buy a car.

I am listening to a book at while I work that is about mythology. I am learning all sorts of interesting things. I already knew a lot about egyptian mythology (I was really into it in 6th grade), but I did not know that a good number of their creation myths (they had quite a few) centered around masturbation. that is, the main god masturbated out the rest of the gods. or, in some versions, swallowed the result of his masturbation and sneezed out the other gods. gross, I know. but not only is it really gross, but they have effective removed the female from one of the only cool things she can do - create life. that struck me as a little odd. that book is called don't know much about mythology by kenneth c. davis.

while we're on the subject of books, I found one of the books that was on my list of books I could not find. it is #3 on the list, and it is called shade's children. it is by garth nix. I suggest everyone read it, even if it is for 12-15 year olds.

also on the subject of books, I want to give (very) brief reviews of the two books I read so far this week. sometimes I go on these reading binges and I just can't stop. this seems to be one of those times. anyway, the first book was called the memoirs of helen of troy by amanda elyot. it was very good in that in made you see things from helen's point of view, which was cool. it kind of made me think she was a jerk, though, and that she made dumb decisions, even though I probably would have done the same thing put in those positions. the second book was bone thief by thomas o'callaghan. it was can't-put-it-down good, but I was a little disappointed by the ending. it felt rushed. I was also disappointed by the main character. it was one of those "I have a wife who is in a coma and I want to be faithful but I have feelings for this other woman" situations. in those situations, much like the "I have a wife who is dead and I want to remain faithful but I have feelings for this other woman" situations, almost always end up with the character getting together with the other woman. I don't like that. if your wife was so important to you, it shouldn't even be an issue. and if she wasn't, then don't make such a big deal out of it. now, obviously I can't really judge these characters, as I have never had a dead or comatose husband (or even a steady boyfriend), but I am pretty sure I would be able to resist the temptation of other men.

on a completely different topic, here are my calorie charts for tuesday:
