I was asked one of the admins over at Racebending.com if they could use my comic for their site. And of course I said yes, but I had to edit it a little bit, since I didn't quite finish last time.
Aw, thanks! (I just wanted Donald Glover as Spider-Man! Was that really so much to ask? Gosh.)
Omg, that Wonder Woman movie...I need to watch it again. And thanks again--sometimes I worry that my massive amounts of ~FEELINGS~ might alienate people, but I figure, dammit, it's my blog and these are my feelings, however occasionally incoherent they may be.
Full disclosure: I love Community. Like, a lot. It consistently makes me laugh and I actually enjoy the meta humor on the show. That being said, I do find it a little annoying that the lead character in such a diverse cast is White Everydude Jeff, who's pretty much a jerkass (occasionally with a heart of gold), and the only real relationship storyline is between three white characters: Annie/Jeff/Britta. (Plus, as a show that's strength is its ensemble cast, I don't like the idea of them focusing on love triangles anyway.)
It's also a little annoying that Britta's feminism is a "quirk" of hers, sometimes shallow, and lends to her "buzzkill" status. Rather than a strength (which I see it as), it's played up as an annoyance. Plus, there was that one episode where the girls (and Abed) took a feminism class and then the episode just turned into a watered down version of Mean Girls. :/
There are certain aspects that the show touches upon with regards to race in a tongue-in-cheek way that I like (Senor Chang as Peggy Fleming and as a Spanish Teacher in season 1, Abed wanting Troy to make it as the first black man to make it to the end of a horror-story scenario, etc.), but then other times it's kinda iffy. Idk.
On the whole, though, I really like the show and think that it's at least better at these issues/brings some visibility to them unlike many of its contemporaries.
Yes, I would too love to see Donald Glover as Spiderman. The fans plastering his pictures in Spiderman costume all over internet actually made me look him up and start watching Community. Now all I wish is a Donald Glover Spiderman movie and Danny Pudi Batman movie. Everyone would be happy.
And thanks for the answer about Community. You know, I did not even realize they do portray Britta's feminism as a quirk, but now that you said it it's obvious. I need to be more critical when watching tv. And I agree with you about the Jeff/Britta/Annie triangle. Jeff and Britta initially made me want to stop watching, as they made the show seem like a everyday cheap sitcom, but I was too interested in Abed. And then they gave me "Troy and Abed in the morning" and I was lost =) Aaaand that was a whole lot of info you did not ask for, you are welcome.
