I tie his arms off with a tourniquet, mapping out which vein I'll tap when he comes in for phlebotomy. After, he holds me close, his head on my chest.
"Thank you for being such a wonderful woman."
I'm trying to let this be enough, to not dig for specifics. Not now, not this time.
Later I tell him how I'm trying to accept my body, that this roll on my back will probably always be there. He raises my arm, and plants kisses all over it.
"Are you trying to make me cry?"
"I told you I love you..."
