Let's see what the future brings, it can go one of two ways - devastatingly uphill or devastatingly downhill. Shame there's no middle ground right now.
I think I disagree--maybe this counts as stunningly uphill, but what I'm looking forward to from the Obama White House (apart from the speeches) is steadiness, sanity, and hard work in the right direction. It's going to take a good while for change to be established. I'm just breathlessly relieved that we've decided to go in that direction.
I'm relieved at that direction too. What I fear is the expectation. It's amazing how much of an inspiration he's been able to build in the people - not just in the US, but across the world. But I hope that those expectations can be tempered with reality fast enough so that people don't do anything rash.
It was interesting watching that at a celebration party for one of the local candidates who also won. He's the local representative and also a democrat. Everybody there was rooting for Obama to win and they were already charged from their candidate winning his race. Went nutters once they announced the results. There was a lady there who was hugging everything in sight, people crying, etc.
I do have to admire his ability to get people to believe in him quite so much. I'm glad at least that on that day, the majority of Americans were happy. They need something to be happy about.
