By Sunday night, Lydia actually feels like she's got some control of her brain again. She manages to spend some time with Stiles that doesn't include ripping each other's clothes off (okay, so, the ripping was mostly Lydia, but he'd snuck away to eat while she was asleep and when she woke up from that dream he was dressed and taking way too long to ( Read more... )

Lydia's a little more clear-headed after the couple of days Stiles has spent with her, mainly in bed, though what happened after he took a quick foray to pick up some food was certainly interesting. And destructive, towards his clothing. How Lydia even managed to rip his hoodie, he doesn't know, but it was kind of awesomeHis dad doesn't seem suspicious of anything and Stiles drives to school in particularly high spirits. Frankly, a few days ago after Gerard's attack, he'd thought his life couldn't get any worse. But then, they always said it had to get worse before it got better, right ( ... )

Speaking of something new.

Lydia...smells Stiles before she sees him or hears him. It's probably a side effect of the receeding heat, since she's been really aware of his presence ever since it started. But it doesn't bother her at all. In fact, she just smiles a little wider, almost literally lighting up when she sees him approach. It's silly, alright? But now that everything's laid out on the table, she thinks she's allowed to act like she likes him without always having to worry about who's looking.

"Stiles! There you are. I was looking for you." She doesn't even know why he says anything to Jackson because she definitely wouldn't, and if she wasn't reaching up into her locker to grab the bagels, she'd punch Jackson for being an asshole. Instead, she says "Ignore him." and opens the bag.

"Okay, I took a guess. Please don't tell me you're allergic to strawberries." She hands over the wrapped bagel before nudging her locker closed.

This is Lydia ignoring Jackson and his growly dog act.

Lydia's smile gets noticeably brighter when she sees him, and Stiles takes that as a good sign. Maybe this could actually work between them. He was certainly more than willing to try.

He sobers at Jackson's insult, one hand reaching up to the wound on his chin. A lot worse than a bus, asshole, Stiles thinks, letting his gaze flicker back to Lydia. He manages a small smile at the food, chuckling a little.

"No, I'm not allergic. But I see you've figured out the secret," Stiles unwraps the bagel and winks. "Quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

Jackson's just standing there watching them in something that resembles the lovechild of shock and befuddlement.

When he reaches up to fiddle with the wound on his chin, she grabs his wrist and tugs it down. It's more of a reflex than anything, after spending all weekend getting on him about picking at his various wounds and bruises. "Stop that."

Through his stomach. Right. Lydia laughs and raises an eyebrow at him. "Stomach. Yeah, sure." What? She's not going to pretend they didn't spend all weekend having sex. That's just stupid.

Ignoring Jackson is fairly easy, since it seems like his brain has completely fried, or at least to the point where he can't really come up with a plausible insult. "I didn't know what you'd want, so. I went for an overabundance of sugar. And if you bite into that right now I'm going to be really pissed off." She folds her arms, leaning against her open locker.

Where's her good morning kiss, Stilinski?

"You already had my heart anyway," Stiles blushes, admitting it quietly. He's a little surprised by the obvious allusion to their weekend, but hey, it wasn't a bad thing. Just, Jackson was right there and she was completely ignoring him...frankly, that made Stiles pretty damn happy and optimistic.

"Sugar is good." Stiles smirks a little, brushing a little bit of the cream over his lips before leaning in to kiss her.

He doesn't get that far though, because then Jackson's breaking out of his frozen state, shoving him back and almost making him drop the bagel. "The hell is going on here?"

Now, how does one tell a freshly-changed werewolf they've maybe (Stiles wasn't entirely clear what they were, but it was something) stolen their on-off girlfriend?

"You're an idiot." Of course, she says it with all the fondness in the world. At this point, it's not even like she's ignoring Jackson. He's just...not there. And Lydia remembers when nothing mattered but Jackson, but she's not sure that nothing else ever existed. It's nice, and mostly novelty, she's sure, but she's allowed to enjoy it all she wants after the way the past couple months of her life have gone. Stiles' too ( ... )

"I asked you a question," Jackson's the one ignoring Lydia now, taking a menacing step towards Stiles. Stiles can see Jackson's eyes flashing, wonders if there's claws extending out of his fingers.

"Dude, Jackson, calm down." Stiles doesn't want to fight with him. Jackson will literally beat him to death...but he's willing to risk that for Lydia. It's stupid, but he is. "Just take a chill pill and walk away."

"Hey!" Jackson might be able to keep quiet while being ignored but it is not something Lydia takes sitting down. She sits her food in her still open locker, moving to step between the boys again and attempt to shove Jackson back.

"You heard him. Walk away." She's well aware that Stiles is willing to run headfirst into a fight, hell, she's seen him do it enough times. But it's not happening on her watch, not when she knows Jackson could really hurt him now and/or he could get in major trouble.

Jackson actually growls, and this is starting to get Very Not Good. A few people are staring. Stiles licks the cream off his lips and shoots Lydia a worried look when she steps in between them.

"You can't wolf out in front of everyone," Stiles comments lowly, so only Jackson and Lydia can hear him. "Leave it."

Jackson snarls wordlessly again, and Stiles wraps his hand around Lydia's, tugging her a little closer to him. He doesn't want her too close in case Jackson loses control and flips it.

"Oh put the ruler down and zip up your pants, Jackass!" Lydia snaps when Jackson growls. Look, she's been attacked by the alpha, kidnapped from the hospital by him and used to bring him back to life. And, you know, she was there when Jackson turned. And the current Alpha tried to mate her this weekend. Jackson does not scare her. Like at all.

People are starting to take notice, but Lydia's too busy staring down Jackson to notice. It's not until Stiles tugs her back that she realizes that everyone's looking. "Whatever Jackson. I've got to get to class anyway."

She lets Stiles go long enough to grab her bagel and jacket out of her locker, slamming it shut and returning to Stiles' side. Yes, people are still staring, and they can all enjoy the sight of Lydia lacing her fingers through Stiles' and heading down the hallway.

And Jackson can go fuck himself.

"I knew he'd be mad, but I didn't think he'd...hulk out or anything." Lydia says softly, once she thinks they're out of his earshot.

Well, he scares Stiles. More so at the idea of Lydia getting hurt than Jackson attacking Stiles himself.

"I should have thought of it. I'm sorry," Stiles raises Lydia's hand to his lips, kissing it in apology. "Werewolves are very...volatile when they're freshly changed. He's only been at it a few days, and after going through heat..."

He hated making excuses for Jackson, but it was true. The guy had always been an ass, but now he was dangerous and Stiles should have remembered how Scott had been and warned Lydia. But he'd been a little too distracted, and, frankly, tired.

"No, don't be." She leans her forehead against his shoulder as they walk, squeezing his hand. "I did think he'd be mad, and I didn't say anything, and I really...I don't know, I don't even know why it matters to him so much. He's obviously been holed up with another girl or two for the past couple of days. He can go be all misogynistic and possessive with them."

They've still got like 20 minutes before class starts, so she tugs him over to one of the big picture windows, taking a seat on the ledge so they can sit down and eat.

"You don't have a class with him, do you?" She feels like she remembers Jackson mentioning something about Stiles doing something in class but she can't remember details and she really doesn't want the two of them around each other without her there.

"He has a connection to you," Stiles sighs, starting to feel a little bad for the guy. "Your love for him transformed him from a giant lizard into a wolf. That's doesn't go away overnight." Unfortunately. Jackson probably needed Lydia, even if he was too stupid to admit it and stop being an asshole for five seconds.

"Now that you mention it, I think I do." Stiles frowns, sitting down with her, bagel in his hand pretty much forgotten. "Calculus. Aw, man." He's so getting a black eye, at the very least. Better than death.

"And then he ignored me. Acted like the same ass he's always acted like without regard for my feelings, and..." She sighs, unwrapping her bagel. "I have a connection to him too, but I know when to call it quits like a big girl. That wasn't him wanting me, that was him not wanting to lose."

"Scott won't be there?" It's not like she doesn't think he can't fight his own battles, but even in his human form, Jackson's much stronger than Stiles now.

"He'll probably be more proprietorial as a wolf." Stiles mutters, propping his chin in his hand. This would be a lot easier if the guy didn't have the ability to grow claws and chuck Stiles through a wall.

"I'll bet you $5 he's skipping with Allison because of his Heat." Stiles shrugs, glancing out the window and blowing a soft stream of air out between his lips. "Not like he doesn't skip Calc anyway." Though at least if he were at the school, Stiles could ask him to not skip.

Heat. Right. Shit. Lydia's is manageable by now, but with Scott being newly turned, it's kind of a toss up. He might have gotten it easy this time and be fine, or he might still be humping everything in sight. Maybe she could call Allison and see where they are...

Reaching up, she brushes her fingertips along the yellowing wound on his cheek. "I'm so sorry." After all, she's the one Jackson's all 'Hear me roar' after. And she doesn't know how to keep him safe.
