On Survival

"Yeah, how'd that plan work out for ya, dummy?"

One thing I've run into a lot in discussions of survival scenarios (usually of the zombie uprising variety, but some serious), everyone's plan alphabet seems to be the same.

Plan A: Loot stores.
Plan B: Why? I got everything I need from looting!

Of course, the most fundamental flaw in this plan is that it is identical to everyone else's. In an "SHTF" scenario*, any stores with worthwhile supplies are likely to be picked clean or in the process of being picked clean by the time you get there. Unless you are prepared to contend with assholes of every stripe, and possibly even shoot it out with gangs, this should be readily apparent as a bad idea.

Oh, and then there's the entirely likely scenario where you find yourself attempting to break into a store whose owner has other ideas and is sitting inside with a shotgun. Oops.

In an emergency scenario the only stuff you can count on having is what you've got. And you know, it doesn't require a huge disaster to be stuck for awhile.

I'll have more later specifically relating to Zombicalypse stuff since it's a purely silly scenario in the next post.
