Last week when our church bulletin came, I decided to take Rachel to see Annie, Jr. this morning. We scheduled an open house later in the week for the Ninth Avenue house.
We were not at church this morning, and all I can say is that I am so incredible grateful that our plans changed. I am also so saddened by the state of affairs of today, and enraged at the remarks filled with hatred - "God's will was done" or, "The Lord does act in mysterious ways." No. Just no. One man, of his own free will, did something malicious and violent today.
Go in peace, Greg McKendry. We don't know the others that were hurt, but apparently another woman was shot in the head and 5-7 more people are in serious to critical condition at UTMC.
And another member stated it the best, to sum up my feelings on the matter, "I can't condemn anyone for anything, for his life is of equal value as mine. Had he come asking questions about the church with an open-mind, he would have been welcomed and loved. We all inhabit this planet, we must learn to find peace with one another."
Death is not life's goal, only life's terminus. The goal is to live in such a way that our lives will prove worth dying for. This is where love comes into the picture. The one thing that can't be taken from us, even by death, is the love we give away before we go.
