Sorry--that was not a comment on you or any of my friends who are on Facebook. I understand that not everyone on FB is constantly baring his or her soul or discussing his or her bowel movements. Plenty of people use it in reasonable ways and get a lot of pleasure from it. Including, I'm sure, you. But it's the whole ethos of the place that bugs me--the fact that everything is public until you make it private (and a lot of people seem to want everything to remain public), the fact that you can't use any of the apps unless you let them scour your info (including your friends-list) first, the way so many people HAVE to check in 40 times a day and update their status, the friend requests I get from people I've never even heard of, the way that every damn website I go to these days seems to offer me the opportunity to "like" it on my FB wall--the basic assumption behind FB seems to be that we all want every aspect of our lives to be out there for everyone to observe, admire, comment on... To which I say, no thanks. I get the same frustration when I hear people having what should be private phone conversations in public places. (Besides, I HATE the layout and look of the site.) My little friends-only journal here is about as public as I care to get. Your mileage may vary.
