No, I did not stay up all night and nor did I spend most of the night catching brief sections of rest scattered throughout the night, I actually managed to get about 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night. The only amusing thing is when I slept till, I got off work about 9 PM and pretty much got home and was asleep by about 10:30 that night and got up around 4:30 AM. Why? I had work, that's why.
See the Lion King is coming to Boston in July to the Opera House, so tickets were being sold at the Colonial Theatre, while the Opera House in being renovated for the LK to arrive this summer, staring this morning at 6 AM. So I and another Majestic Usher, Christina, started handing out pamphlets for two CEMT (Cutler Emerson Majestic Theatre) shows, one that's on now and done by Emerson stage and one that's coming in December and is main stage (Christmas Carol) , so that anyone who was on line for the LK would know about these shows and want to go etc. etc. Marketing and planning at it's best people, and I am always glad to be a part of it. Considering that I got paid for four hours of both my Majestic Usher/Porter job and a few hours of my House Manager job at the Tufte building for doing some rather easy foot work, it was all good.
Enter funny moment one, myself and Christina were chased off the line by about 6:45 by a representative for Broadway of Boston who was working for the LK and I believe in that instance also working for Disney itself, as an extended representative, when she told me that she did not think that Disney would like the fact that we were advertising other shows other than Disney's the LK. So yeah...instead of causing a scene and maybe even arguing with these people, who were also doing their job, I decided that we had handed out a good few hundred of a CC pamphlets and about half of the Emerson Stage productions pamphlets as well and we had gotten to everyone new in the line already that we should just leave peacefully and let it be. If Joe asks tonight about it, since I have work at the Majestic anyway, I'll tell him what happened and see if we can't figure out how to either prevent it the next time or make sure that we at least know who to talk too about it.
So me and Christina got some hot chocolate and talked for a while about this and that, I dropped off the majority of the remainder of the ads for the shows back outside the Majestic and wandered back over to the LK line, which was still stretching over a few hundred yards twisting around a block actually to see if I could snag a few more free things. See while I was handing out the ads I won a free mug of the LK by answering a trivia question about the LK itself.
Before I tell you what I won let me add, to the mug and my being paid for this time I was awake, I also got a "Bah, humbug!" hat and t-shirt that I had to where on line for advertising sakes and we got to keep them. So add to all that the fact that I won/was given two DVD box sets, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Five and Firefly and I think I had a very good morning. Oh, I also met the announcer for 98.5 here in Boston, Kelli I believe was her name, and two interns, George and Jeff, who were just all around great people.
So now I am sitting in the Emerson library killing time till I feel like getting breakfast or a early lunch and then class and work. Talk to you all soon!
