We DID receive both paychecks today!! I don't know where the funds came from, but you know what they say about gifthorses...
I've decided I like having two paychecks. I'm going to suggest they do that every payday!
Timing was such that we were able to get by without much trouble. The mortgage and car payment are due the first week of the month, so they were paid last month before the crisis. And these checks are just in time to pay next month's. Between good timing and our having been conservative with spending this month, the one paycheck is almost like a bonus.
And as my wife and I reviewed bills, we found the compact fluorescent light bulbs I installed throughout the house in early spring have reduced the electric bill from around 100 bucks a month to the middle sixties. I replaced 60 watt incandescent bulbs with 23 watt CFLs, which produce the equivalent candlepower of a 100 watt incandescent, giving us 167% the light at 37% the cost. CFLs have a bit of a delay when you turn them on (you hit the switch and the light doesn't come on instantly - just enough delay for you to think WTF?). If it's cool in the house, there is a few minutes warm-up time until they reach full brightness. Other than that, there isn't any sacrifice, really. Hey, if it saves nearly 40 dollahs a month, I can deal with it.
