Watching the KHR! anime, and am not nearly as enamoured of it as I am the manga.

-WHERE IS GOKUDERA'S CIGARETTE? Seriously this is bugging the crap out of me. Self-lighting dynamite doesn't have nearly the same sexy flair, and he just looks so wrong without it. :|

-Why does Leon turn into the dying-will gun? In the manga he's clearly still sitting on Reborn's hat when he fires it the first time.

-What happened to Yamamoto's suicide attempt? His loyalty to Tsuna later won't make nearly as much sense or be as powerful without it. Guy who saved your life =/= random friend you think is kind of funny and like hanging around with sometimes. What are they going to do when it gets to his fight against Joushima Ken and he has to decide between his future baseball career and Tsuna?

-Kyoko's dying-will moment? Where'd that go? Her sticking up to Tsuna's mom on his behalf was one of the most adorable moments in the introductory chapters. D: Must be because she does it in her underwear in the manga, but seriously, that's easily fixed. Let her keep a few scraps of her shirt and all is well.

-in the episode with the math problem no one could solve, why make Reborn's answer ridiculous? It was much more interesting in the manga when he corrected the university professor's incorrect answer. Him being smarter than the professor was a plot point, not a random fun thing. Don't cut shit out if you don't need to, show.

-and now stuff's out of order, and there's filler. Exploding lunchbox, what? I-PIN'S MASTER, WHAT?! And Lambo's wetting himself in front of Tsuna's classmates should have come after the school competition, Moretti, and Yamamoto's sushi restaurant (no dramatic window-entrace for Hibari? T__T).

-WHERE THE HELL IS SHOUICHI?

-Ryohei wasn't supposed to be in the competition for Lambo's babysitter, but I don't mind this so much because his stare of d00m was hilarious and awesome.

-I-Pin! Why does she show up so early? And WHY for the love of god can she speak Japanese, even badly? I get that it might have been too difficult to get a suitable seiyuu to have her speak Chinese, but aauuugghhh no. But mostly I'm bothered by the fact that she shows up so early.

-the episode with I-Pin's super-gyoza knocking Kyoko and Haru out. I'm thankful they left Tsuna's inability to decide in, but why did they make Tsuna go dying-will and run around looking for I-Pin's master (WHO SHOULD NOT BE IN HERE AT ALL, OH MY GOD)? It was much more interesting when both girls got shot instead and synchronized their regrets. It was also necessary to introduce the one-tonne hammer. Why change that?

-Dino! Again, MASSIVELY early! There is so much stuff that should have happened before the New Year competition that totally didn't! Not that I'm complaining about more Dino, but seriously, the intro chapters are there for a reason. They're long and ridiculous, yes, but they're full of important insights about the characters that's just getting bypassed.

-Aside from the plot wtfery... the animation. What are they doing to my boys? It's painful. Especially Gokudera. His face just hurts to look at sometimes. (I may back this up with screencaps later, for lulz.) At least Ryohei and Kyoko usually look okay, and Hibari has little enough face time that his butchering isn't killing my soul just yet. The manga art is so pretty that it pains me deeply to see it so ruined.

Things I DO like:

-some of the voice actors. Hibari's is (thankfully) pretty awesome, Lambo's is pitch perfect ♥ and I do like Tsuna's sometimes (especially when he does his weird little 'NNAA! D:' thing, I love that).

-Dino in a tank. ♥

So basically, the manga owns the anime's face times 1785120381.

The introductory chapters are very long and silly, yes, but after a really in-depth reread I've come to realize that they're a huge part of what makes the later chapters so freaking awesome. They illustrate the 'good old days' that the party leaves behind in the Kokuyou Gang arc, making it that much more poignant when everything goes to shit. They get you familiar with the characters, their quirks and motivations and dynamics with other characters, and makes you care about them before they start getting screwed over. It's admittedly a bit of an awkward way to do it, other mangakas have done it better, but it's still a hell of a lot better than the tripe the anime's throwing at me.

There are so many little things in the intro arcs that end up showing up much later in the series. Like Yamamoto's issue with his health being the most important thing to him, and his dilemma with that when fighting Ken. Like Irie Shouichi, for chrissakes (though I suspect he'll probably show up in the next few episodes, albeit much later than he should have, just because he's so integral to the plot later). Like Moretti. Like Hibari's little obsession with Reborn.

I'm looking forward to the Kokuyou Gang arc with deep misgivings. If the anime tries to keep the ridiculous, colourful air it's been using so far (which is perfect for the intro chapters) into that arc, I may have to throw something. There is very little light-hearted or silly about Hibari and Mukuro making each other bleed. And how will they handle Mukuro shooting himself in the head if they didn't even let Yamamoto consider jumping off the roof? So far it's censored most of the questionable material (like Gokudera's cigarette D: D: D:) but they can't keep doing that forever. Soon enough people will be losing teeth and having bones broken and skin sliced open and abdomens will collapse, are they going to gloss over all that too?

I just feel like... it's already pulling punches and nothing's really happened yet. I feel cheated. ;___;

Can anybody tell me if it gets better later? *hopeful*
