at 5:45am i encountered my lovely kitten-hearted cats closely examining a snake, yes, a snake. black with white stripes, the snake quickly uncoiled it's 20cm length and snaked it's way underneath a pile of dirty laundry at the bottom of the closet just outside the bathroom. as i valiantly tried to catch it with a t-shirt, babykitten lept backwards 2 feet. after it had disappeared, buppa charged delicately into the closet with a sort of, "i'm gonna get you" attitude. i wincingly removed the clothing from the floor not finding the snake again. at this point i had exhausted all hero-like adrenalin, decided it was best to ignore this nightmare and shut the door. much later now, the closet has been thoroughly unpacked and the city's animal control branch has laughingly advised that snakes can climb and could be anywhere but that they like couches. my upstairs neighbor is the owner of the snake and hasnt been reached yet for advice about food baiting or what signs to look out for. does anyone know if snakes make waste and what it might look like? my neighbor's mother confirmed that the snake had "gone missing" and wanted to know if i had killed it. as looking for the snake is relative to looking for a mouse, i'm choosing to assume that it has left the way it came until otherwise indicated but i am still creeped out. yuck.
