Okay, non-political post tiem nao, lolz.

Today I was supposed to register for my archaeology survey course at Peace. I was already nervous because, as a non-degree-seeking student, I had to register after everyone else and I was worried that the class would be filled up. But when I got there, the registrar was having technical problems with the database, and she couldn't even open the program to tell me who was teaching the course so I could get in touch with him. So I sat there awkwardly for a few minutes while she scrambled unsuccessfully to open the database. (It was even more awkward because the registrar told me that she had hoped to have gotten out of work two hours ago because her niece was in the hospital with a possible case of appendicitis.)

Finally she gave up and asked me for my information, promising to call me tomorrow to let me know if there's still space available in the class. So now I'm worried I won't be able to take the class after all. D: I'm hoping that, if that happens, I can convince the professor to let me take the course audit or something. I was so excited about the idea of taking classes again and I don't want to miss that opportunity.

Okay, I know I just said that this post would be non-political, but I can't help but express a huge "WTF" at the news that Proposition 8 in California -- taking away same-sex couples' rights to marry -- passed. What the hell is with these states finally making steps towards marriage equality, and then only a few months later yanking that right away?! Were they just teasing us? What does this mean for the thousands of couples who got married earlier this year? I'm just so pissed off. Once again a reminder that we still have a long road ahead of us -- hopefully there won't be so many of these setbacks in the future.

Oh well, at least my state, North Carolina, elected its first female governor on Tuesday night. That fact has been mostly forgotten due to the other Big News, but it's a thing to celebrate nonetheless.

gay rights, proposition 8, school, wtf, archaeology, politics
