My computer is now fixed, and back in my hands safe and sound! *does happy dance* Apparently it was some problem with the motherboard -- the techno geeks at Digitz (the place on Hillsborough St. that repaired it) didn't go into any detail about it. I'm just glad it's okay now. Fortunately it was under warranty so it didn't cost anything...I just hope it continues to work okay after this.
Everything else has been fine, more or less. Actually, I've had a kind of a crap week at work...on Tuesday I made a big, stupid mistake that resulted in my boss getting pretty mad at me, and for the rest of the week I've just kept spilling stuff and doing embarrassing things like that. My boss seems to be no longer upset about the incident on Tuesday, and the week is almost over, but it's made me feel kind of shitty and down on myself. :-/
Tonight was good, though. Not only did I get my computer back, but my parents also took me out to dinner where I had some interesting conversations with my dad about music (the Beatles/John Lennon, David Bowie, Genesis, the Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, Neil Young, etc.). I even informed my parents of how Angela Bowie supposedly walked in on David and Mick Jagger in bed together once...they seemed to find that bit of info very, erm, interesting. XD It's really cool that my parents and I are on the same level where we can have almost the same kind of intellectual conversations I'd have with my friends. And now that I'm no longer living under their roof, they're treating me more like an adult now. It's pretty nice, although I still do mourn the end of my childhood sometimes.
Erika and I are going to see "Les Miserables" at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium tomorrow! Not only were the tickets free (my mom was given them by some woman at her work), but they're excellent seats, right in the front row. I'm really looking forward to it as I've never seen this musical before, although I'm familiar with a couple of the songs (e.g. "Castle on the Cloud").
I realized recently that almost every LJ entry I've posted lately has had "writing" as one of its tags. I think that's a good thing, since one of the main reasons I took this year off from school was to further my writing career. Yes, I'm going to call it my writing career now...I may not be an established author but I'm going to take steps so that before long I will be, dammit! I'm meant to do this, I know it; I just need discipline and determination. Luckily, the story I've been working on lately is coming together more and more every day. My characters are constantly revealing more parts of themselves to me, which in turn helps me figure out where the plot is headed. I can see my main character, and the supporting characters, so well in my mind that it's like they're becoming real people. Some parts of them are still kind of fuzzy, but I'll figure out those parts in time. I also started drawing a map of the village where the main character lives so I can better visualize what her life is like. I've even written a few paragraphs of the first chapter -- which isn't much, but every great work has to start somewhere. I don't know if this is anything that will end up being important in my body of work later on, but for now I'm just going to work hard on writing it and enjoy the experience. I can't wait to share some of it with you all.
