OkCupid: jumping the shark?

Feb 03, 2011 01:51

Apparently, OkCupid was bought by Match.com, and took down their OkTrends article where they explain why you should not pay Match.com or Eharmony.com for dating services.

I expect a paywall within 12 months... :/

NOOOOOOOOOOOO

THIS IS BULLSHITTTTT

IT'LL MAKE ME ACTUALLY HAVE TO SOCIALIZE.

I don't like that they sacrificed their integrity for cash a bit here either.

To be fair, "a bit"=$50,000,000

There isn't much I wouldn't sell for that much, knowing that for the rest of my life I could do anything I wanted, no matter how artistically esoteric.

Ahh, but I didn't say "a bit of cash" I said "sacrificed their integrity for cash a bit here" by which I meant that they only sort of sacrificed their integrity, mostly referring to them deleting their previous post.

Ah. Yeah, well, it's sort of selling out, but only the most hardcore artsy fartsy types wouldn't consider it sort of bad form.

Rock on!!!!

Well, it's not exactly bad form, but it has the potential to ruin the site. Who knows what their new owners have planned for it. Probably not going to be run like a labour of love anymore...
