Chef Ramsay's an ass

I just caught up on the last three episodes of Hell's Kitchen. Zane and I used to watch together, but damn! Ramsay's an ass. I'd let Zane watch Iron Man without hesitation - it's clearly pretend violence. I understand they want some tension and drama for a reality show, but Ramsay's just mean and rude. I've seen bits of Ramsey's show but I avoid it because I don't think it is realistic and yes, Ramsey's an ass. There are people working in food that behave that way, but they tend to flame out (think Marco Pierre White) and go bankrupt or grow up and calm down. If you really want to watch how plates come together, try Iron Chef on the Food Network on Sunday nights (much more kid-oriented) or Top Chef on Bravo on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

I have to respectfully disagree about the violence in Iron Man (and I am talking about the movie). There were elements of that movie that were not pretend violence - the soldiers being ambushed and killed on the road, Afghani families being terrorized, and men being lined up against a wall to be shot. Those experiences are real, happening at this very moment, and our own military is either funding, fighting or facilitating those actions. Beyond that, though, I believe that there are some images that don't belong in a small person's brain because they are unable to process or understand them appropriately. That's how kids get nightmares and terrors, among other things, and that's why the movie is rated PG-13. I believe that children should be at least over 10 before they have images of exploding body parts, gunshot wounds, and mass destruction in their heads. Call me old-fashioned or just experienced.
