iPhone SDK - finally

one of the reasons holding me back from getting an iPhone originally, was that it was a closed system.  i would not be able to write apps for it, or download other 3rd part apps.  but all that changed when apple announced they would in fact release a Software Development Kit for the iPhone in Februrary.  Well, they were only a little late releasing ( Read more... )

It's about time. Apple has been reminding me of Microsoft more and more lately, and it's kind of disturbing.

it looks really interesting to me as well... unfortunately, I don't have any intel macs around... except of course at work... but no time to actually do anything fun like develop there.

i really haven't followed macs in a long time now. what's the cheapest intel mac these days? i heard some talk on the boards of looking for refurbished mac minis. is there a used market in madison?

the mac mini IS the cheapest mac you can get... used ones would be 3 to 4 hundred.. maby less... BUT you have to be sure it's an INTEL, not a PPC mini (intel = 4 USB ports & 110 watt Power supply), and it's BYO - Keyboard, monitor and mouse.

you can find them on craigs list from time to time.

the new market starts at ~1000 for MacBook or iMac (portable & desktop). for you I would recommend iMac or MacBook Pro, due to detected graphics card, that combined with intel macs ability to run Windows & Linux, and you can have a nice unified test and development system.
