Pairing: Marsh/Wes (MES)
Type: Songfic
Warning: Man-Love (it's just happy smut :D)
Marshall slumped his bag on the floor as Lori came up to hug him, happy he was home. He embraced her but his mind was in another world, thinking about Wes.
Making a list of all of the good things you've done for me
She tried to make him happy telling him that the baby was asleep and couldn’t be woken up, but he wouldn’t budge.
Lord I've never been one to complain but right now I'm lost
And I can't find my way
Marsh told Lori he was too tired from the long trip, and that was true, but he had other things on his mind so he decided to sleep in the basement tonight. He had to think this out.
My world's come apart, and it's breaking my heart,
He thought about the bus ride. How could he make Wes that mad? How could he know that Wes would make such a big deal out of the situation? How could Wes let him go like that?
But it helps to know that your heart is breaking too
He leaned back into the comforts of the basement couch, wrapped up in the blanket from his bunk on the bus. He tried to imagine how he could've done things differently but in the end he decided just to curl up with his pillow and fall asleep.
When I cry, you cry, when I hurt, you hurt,
And when I've lost someone, it takes a piece of you too,
And when I fall on my face, you fill me with grace,
Cuz nothing breaks your heart, or tears you apart,
Like when I cry.
Marsh woke up, three AM, to the TV coming on. He blinked the fuzziness out of his vision and dug into his overnight bag beside him for his glasses. He looked through the lenses and saw himself on the screen. He shook his head and realized it was the Amazing Grace video bonus features where he was telling about how much he loved the song Wes sang. Lori must've had it on an alarm to turn on when the Gaither hour came on. He fell back down and the recent days events came rushing back to him.
Alone in the dark, face in my hands crying out to you.
He heard footsteps come down the stairs and quickly wiped his eyes, not wanting Lori to know how stressed he was. She apologized to him for the television, telling him that it was her way to feel like he was home when he wasn’t. He kissed her, told her that he wouldn’t be gone for a while and sent her back upstairs.
Lord there's never been a time in my life,
There's so much at stake, there's so much to lose,
But I trust it to you; you'll bring me through,
And it helps me to know that I'm not alone.
He turned onto the floor, digging through his bag once more to find his scribbled handwriting on a disc. It said "lovin' life- build an ark, Jesus and John Wayne, and place at the table." He popped it into his laptop and clicked on the third video. It was of Wes in the studio, singing into the microphone, one of those days when they were the only ones recording. He thought about behind the scenes of that video. If Lori only knew...
It's not like they haven't had fights before. Of course they did. They wouldn’t be a good couple if they didn’t. But they would always make up. Whether it would be the next day or the next concert or someone would just apologize. Marsh buried his head in his hands. It was never like this though. Never when they would be away from each other for weeks at a time.
When I cry, you cry, when I hurt, you hurt,
And when I've lost someone, it takes a piece of you too,
And when I fall on my face, you fill me with grace,
Cuz nothing breaks your heart, or tears you apart,
Like when I cry.
He always said that Wes was a 'little boy'; that he would never measure up to the rest of the guys. Wes would always brush it off though, saying it was just the way he was.
You're the one, who calmed the raging sea,
Even when Marsh would get all the attention from the fans Wes wouldn’t let it faze him. He would sign the CD's and smile on, knowing that Marshall cared about him in the end.
You're the one, who made the blind to see,
You looked through all of heaven and eternity,
And through it all you saw me,
Marshall sat against the couch with a notebook and a pen. If he and Wes couldn’t work their problems out together, he'd try to win him back. He pulled off the cap, flipped to a clean sheet of paper and started to write.
When I cry, you cry, when I hurt, you hurt,
And when I've lost someone, it takes a piece of you too,
And when I fall on my face, you fill me with grace,
Nothing breaks your heart, or tears you apart,
Like when I cry.
