"-and I'll take your next Sikh day."

"That wasn't funny five years ago, Ray, and it's not funny now!"

"It is!"

"Is not!"

Both jumped as Joe squealed from where his Mommy was holding him in the doorway.

"Not! Not! Not!"

"See, Ray," Aunty Nee laughed, "even Joe knows it's not funny!"

"What are you guys arguing about anyway?" Mommy asked a she dumped his big bag on the floor and the door shut behind them.

Joe wriggled, trying to get down as his Aunty Nee told Mommy,

"Mr. Ray," she pulled a funny face at Mr. Ray, "wants me to wrap his presents for him."

Mommy laughed and sat Joe on the big chair and started taking off his big coat,

"At least he's not trying to switch shifts on you so he can go jet setting this time!"

"True, true," Aunty Nee said when she picked up the shiny paper from the big table, "doesn't mean he can't learn how do it himself!"

"Self! Self! Self!" Joe added as he wiggled his feet.

"Joe, let Mommy take your boots off first, then you can run around."

Joe wriggled his feet a little more, and then stopped when Mommy got that look on her face, he smiled at her, and she grinned back,

"Behave, Joe!"

"I 'have!"

"Sure you do, little man."

"Presents?" he asked, trying to see the table to see if there were any colour books on it, "Colour?"

Mr. Ray moved something real fast when Aunty Nee turned round real fast to look at him,

"Nope, sorry, not today kiddo. How about we look at the last picture in your Baloo book?"

"Yes, Joe, why don't you go and colour with Mr. Ray, while I help your Aunty Neela tidy up this big mess she made?"

"Hey!" Aunty Nee said and pulled a face at Joe when he giggled.

"'kay. Colour Mr. Ray."

Neela watched as Ray helped Joe colour in the picture of Baloo and Mowgli at the back of the first book he'd bought for Joe.

"So cute," Abby said.

"What? Did you really just use that word, Abby?"

Abby grinned at her,

"I did, but you two really deserved it."

"What?"

"Is your record stuck, Neela?"

In the mood of the day, and admittedly the household, Neela answered by sticking out her tongue.

"But really. Could you two be any more sickeningly cute?"

"We were not!" Neela almost shouted, grabbing Ray's attention as he looked up and grinned at her and turned back quickly to stop an errant crayon from rolling off the coffee table.
"Sure."

"We are not," Neela managed a little quieter that time.

"Uh huh, so you didn't just attempt to teach your man how to wrap a present properly and he didn't just try to wheedle out of it by using a joke he tried on you five years ago?"

"Well, uh-" Neela tried to come up with an answer, blushed when she realised there wasn't one, not one that would help anyway.

"Exactly!" Abby said triumphantly.

"Hey, there's no problem with being..." Neela tried to find the words.

"Absolutely, totally and utterly in love with each other, so much that it's almost too cute?" Abby finished for her.

End Ficlet.
