community psychology is basically the BEST CLASS EVER. today we watched clips from patch adams, journaled, and talked about the particular issue that was important to our group--my group's is education, mainly educational equity and inspiration of free thought and the unstructuring of classrooms and activism through the schools.
i leave that class with a huge smile on my face and a commitment to actually CHANGING part of the world. its not just ideas and ideals anymore. it's not enough to be thankful for the easy life we've had.
learn about muhammad yunus. his program of microlending [loans of 10-20 dollars for mainly women, beginning in bangladesh, which has since been extrapolated to nearly every country in the world] has helped millions of the poorest people of the world. by the end of this year, the program he began with $27 will have helped half of the poorest people in the world from starvation, from the ridiculously high interest of loan sharks, and to get on their feet--and stay there. whoever thinks that one person can't make a difference couldn't be more wrong.
quitting my job in t-minus one hour. there are so many better ways to spend my time.
