emailing professors is awkward. so is using the word professor when you're so used to the word teacher.
it's new and amusing to me that these crazy professors give you their email addresses, home telephone number, (AND!) cell phone number, and let you call them by their first names.
college is a trusting environment, or so it seems. that gives me hope for after high school. high school may cradle us like tiny, helpless babes but at the same time it treats us like a massive group of degenerate invalids, capable of all kinds of perversions if god forbid we call a teacher by their first name. this is not to say it's the fault of teachers either. teachers are generally nice people beneath their authoritative exteriors, or so i've found. it's more the conventions of high school in general; the existence of things like detention is pretty damn insulting. who wouldn't want to rebel against that kind of authority? maybe if detention didn't exist, students would be more mature and less apt to do stupid "detention-worthy" things simply because it is what is expected of them. trust begets compliance more than force does. force just makes us angry. honor us, we'll honor you.
