look, I don't pretend to know a lot about mormonism, nor do I pretend like the catholic church (gotta love people who sell tickets into heaven (do not pass hell, do not collect $200)) or other christian churches are perfect, but I just don't understand how people can believe in the LDS doctrine REMOTELY

so you did need history. i also took care of the linguistics.
and yes, it is an institute funded by BYU but they aren't directly affiliated with the church; why would any other institute work to validate somebody's else's' religion? heh.
did you even look at the link i gave you? it answers a lot of the questions.
"the book of mormon never claims that the horse was universally known or used in the new world. for example, book of mormon references to horses suggest that they may have been relatively uncommon, being limited only to certain regions during specific periods of book of mormon history. one horse specimen, discovered in florida, was carbon-dated to about 100 b.c. other horse remains have been found in precolumbian archaeological contexts in mesoamerica (at loltun and mayapan), but these have not as yet been carbon dated."
i personally think you're nitpicking, you can find things like this about any religion. i reiterate what i said earlier:
"there is no real scientific proof that christ ever actually lived, but christians seem to accept it? in fact science does not arrive at answers, only discovering the next questions. it is here where religious peoples faith is tested as mortals to believe in the world we see, touch, taste and hear or one that we perceive in other ways. this world changes. it is in constant flux, what it true today is disproven tomorrow, even the sun could stop shining, the earths orbit could change etc. but there is a world our there that is unchanging, truths that never vary or change but because we can't see it doesn't mean that its not there, or that it is. there is no way to prove that anything actually happened beyond the moment we are experiencing right now, even a picture is inaccurate.
any testimony based on science will falter, we can't even 'prove' scientifically that christ even lived at all."
maybe somebody who actually goes to the church can elaborate further, but i could easily produce such a list for any religion.
