Eleanor Roosevelt
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City on October 11, 1884 ( Stevenson 1).
She was born into a prominent New York City family, and was the niece of President Thedore
Roosevelt (#). Eleanor would grow from isolated, lonely girl, into a strong woman who would
one day redefine the role of First Lady of the United States (Stevenson 1). She also had a
way of reaching out to all kinds of common people - farmers, workers, rural mountain folks,
African-Americans, and others who'd been consigned to society's margins (Stevenson 1).
